- Place, time and space are keywords in Stockholmskällan. But what about today? How can children of today develop ther understanding of history and also be a part in history making? Stockholmkällan together with Wikimedia Sweden created – WikiWelcome. The project was founded by the Swedish innovation agency, Vinnova. WikiWelcome - children searching and sharing knowledge about their local area in present, past and future - and creating history on open web platforms. The project focus on information and media skills, source criticism, creating digital content and the link between the physical and digital space. Our aim is that our method will inspire other museums, archives and schools to make their own WikiWelcome in their local area and sharing their local history with the world. Hur kan elever och lärare tillsammans skapa en förståelse för delakultur, källkritik och kopplingen mellan den fysiska platsen och digitala platsen i ett samhälle i ständig förändring? Syftet har varit att unders̈öka samarbetsvä̈gar för skola och kulturinstitution och att utveckla konkreta exempel på undervisning som kopplar samman det digitala medielandskapet med kunskap om den lokala kulturmiljön. It Välkommen till min plats – elever söker och delar kunskap om sin närmiljö i nutid, dåtid och framtid.
- The target group is students in years 1-6. (Primary and elementary school). We started out by identifying the students favorite sites near the school. The student choose their own favorite place and wrote their own personal story why the place is special to them. For example they choose playgrounds, their own street, the public library etc.
- Next step was to seek information about the history on thir favourite spot. This kind of local history you can not really read in ther history book. You have to look in other places. For example we used the school library and we explored a local archeological site. The students also searched the web. For example they used Stockholmskällan and our local historical sourses, photograps, maps. At last the students wrote a text based on the facts they learned.
- One student in the 6th grade choose this spot – Engelska radhusen. The english row houses – where he lives. He found a picture from the year 1910 in Stockholmskällan and compared it with his own picture. It looks the same! (The historical photographs has been a very good material for the students to work with.)
- The last step was to put their personal places and storys on the web – so that anyone, anywhere in the word could read their texts. Their knowledge went outside their classrom – to meet the world.
- A big part of this project is about understanding what history is and how history is created, it is not universal thruth, it is not a given thing existing on its own - Instead - it is constantly created by us humans and influenced by time and context When students write their own stories about a place – and but it online - they are doing a real historic effort – for the future.
