Sanitizing your doors
It can be easy to forget about the doors in our homes, and to not appreciate quite
how dirty they can quickly get. It’s not just the door knobs and handles that can
harbor a plethora of germs and grime, either, many times smaller hands that
can’t reach the handles will touch the door instead, leaving all manner of sticky
marks and bacteria behind.

3. Look for signs of finger and palm prints around your door handles and even on
the frame, and aside from sanitizing those hotspots on a daily basis, wash your
doors on both sides with a simple solution of dishwasher liquid and water, or
spray a disinfecting solution and wipe it off.

4. Keeping light switches and plug outlets clean
Just as easy to overlook when cleaning as your doors, switches and outlets are
almost always dirtier than you imagine them to be, and should be cleaned at
least once a week. However, since both items are electrical, never spray a
sanitizing solution directly onto them, always spray it onto a cloth or sponge first
and then wipe them down thoroughly. You could even use Q-Tips dipped in
disinfectant to get into smaller cracks and joints between switches and buttons,
for full sanitizing of these potential bacteria breeding grounds.

5. Sparkling floors that are germ-free, too
For laminated or tiled flooring, it can be easier to clean, but because you can spot
the debris and dirt that bit easier, you might feel inclined to clean them more
often to keep germs and grime at bay. And of course, that’s good – the cleaner
your floors are, the better. But when it comes to carpeted flooring, it’s equally
important to vacuum it just as often.
If you have pets and/or small children in your household, check that your floor
cleaning solutions are safe to use first, while ensuring that they are still
antibacterial and capable of sanitizing your floors as well as keeping them
sparkling clean. Oftentimes, dishwashing soap has antimicrobial properties, so if
in doubt, you can use a solution of soap and water to get your floors clean.

6. Sanitizing all frequently handled items
Finally, go through your entire home and think carefully about what items or
areas are frequently touched, and wherever possible, apply a disinfectant spray
and wipe them down. TV remotes and other handheld devices are prime bacteria
breeding grounds, so be sure to check these and clean them, while going careful
not to get liquid inside them and damage the components. Again, Q-Tips dipped
in an antibacterial solution can work wonderfully well.
