White House criticizes Congress on automaker aid

ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE (Reuters) -- The White House criticized Congress today for going on recess without taking action on
a plan to help automakers, saying Democrats had "mindless opposition" to what Republicans support.
"It is appalling that Congress decided to leave town without addressing a problem that they themselves said needed to be
addressed," White House spokeswoman Dana Perino told reporters traveling with President George W. Bush to Peru.
"There's this mindless opposition to anything that the president or Republicans would support," she said.
