It's a repetitive cycle- corporations aggregate our data without our consent, corporations sell our data without our consent, and criminals steal our data by exploiting the companies that don't adequately protect that data. Despite the frequency of PII loss, and the disproportionately negative impact for those effected, many practitioners see their organizations routinely underfund or neglect their information security and identity programs. Furthermore, when existing regulations (or the lack thereof) fail to get companies to invest in securing identity data, what non-regulatory recourse remains to force organizations to remedy their security posture? In this session Jon Lehtinen outlines what actions, if any, can be considered an appropriate response to this pattern of corporate behavior, the future risks this continued behavior may bring, and how identity professionals can work to align the interests of their employers to the interests of those impacted by these lax corporate security practices.
The document discusses the progression of Islamic art over time. It begins by outlining the three basic components of traditional Islamic art: calligraphy, geometric patterns, and floral motifs. It then explains that figural imagery was prohibited in Islamic art due to religious restrictions. During the medieval period, miniature illustrations began to emerge alongside text in manuscripts, acting as secondary imitations of the written words. Overall, the document traces how Islamic art has developed while adhering to its theological limitations on representation.

INTEGRATIVE FRAMEWORK FOR UNDERSTANDING AND APPLYING OB Demographics are a key input that affects important OB processes, most particularly perceptions, which in turn affect the individual-level outcome of well-being/flourishing and the organizational outcomes of being an employer of choice and corporate reputation. Page 111 winning at work PERCEPTION PLAYS A KEY ROLE IN GETTING A JOB A recent survey of 400 humanresource professionals uncovered results that are important to college graduates looking for a job. The overwhelming conclusion? That “entry-level workers are an entitled, unprofessional bunch.” About 45 percent of the HR professionals believed that the work ethic of new college graduates had slipped in the past five years.1 Let’s consider how you can avoid being perceived so negatively. IMPRESSIONS FROM SOCIAL MEDIA The Internet is a gold mine of information for recruiters, and some of it creates a bad impression. Photos of drunken behavior, or rants with foul language or that “bash” your employer, won’t improve a recruiter’s perception. You need to be careful about your online presence because approximately 20 percent of all organizations browse sites like LinkedIn, Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter to help screen employees. Consider the experience of Pete Maulik, chief strategy officer at Fahrenheit 212. Maulik was ready to make an offer to an applicant, but first decided to check out the man’s LinkedIn profile—and decided that the applicant was not a team player. “He took credit for everything short of splitting the atom,” Mr. Maulik said. “Everything was ‘I did this.’ He seemed like a lone wolf. He did everything himself.” Maulik recalls another good applicant who used his Twitter account “to disparage just about every new innovation in the marketplace.” Maulik concluded that the applicant “was much more comfortabl.

The document discusses how "corporate speak" hinders communication with real people. Corporate speak uses formal language and politically correct terms that are difficult for many to understand. The document provides examples of financial commentators and politicians who speak in corporate terms that fail to connect with the general population. It recommends that those trying to sell products like insurance speak plainly and observe clients' lives for real-world examples of insurance needs rather than using fear-mongering or intangible concepts. By normalizing insurance as a necessity and speaking to people in a straightforward way, connections can be made rather than relying on corporate jargon.
Proper corporate governance is about the standards set by those who are in a position to establish and enforce those standards. It is about leaders who know what appropriate attitudes and systems are required and how to deliver the message from positions of power.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
