WHAT IS SIELE?
§ SIELE is a system that assesses and certifies Spanish language skills among
students and professionals, on all five continents, using electronic means.
§ It is promoted by the Instituto Cervantes, the Universidad Nacional
Autónoma de México, the Universidad de Salamanca and the
Universidad de Buenos Aires.
§ Paperwork is performed electronically: registration, reservation,
communication and tracing.
§ It is panhispanic: includes all the linguistic variations of Spanish.
§ SIELE certifies the degree of competencies in the Spanish language
through four tests that evaluate different linguistic skills: Reading
comprehension, Listening comprehension, Written expression and
interaction, and Oral expression and interaction.
§ The scoring corresponds to the European Council's Common European
Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
1. Independent modalities
o These exams are based on combinations of specific tests.
o Upon completing the test, the candidate receives a report with a
validity period of two years, which includes a per-test score and
equivalence for CEFR levels.
2. SIELE Global exam
o The SIELE Global exam is comprised of 4 specific tests that cover all fields
of Spanish language knowledge.
o It has a duration of 3h and uses a 1,000 point scoring system
(each test accounts for a maximum of 250 points).

§ What paperwork do I need to sit the exam?
On the day of the exam you will need to bring:
- Your official identification document you presented upon registration.
- Your SIELE.org user access details. You must remember them to be
able to access the computer system on which you will take the exam.
§ What certificates and reports are provided?
If the candidate has sat the complete exam (the four tests), he or she will
receive a Certificate that includes per-test scoring in relation to the CEFR
levels and a numerical score from 0 to 1000, representative of the sum of
the scores for each of the four tests.
If the candidate has sat an independent exam modality, he or she will
receive a Report including the CEFR equivalent score.
§ How and when do the candidates receive the results?
Within a period of three weeks. The candidates will receive an email
informing them that their scores are available on the SIELE platform. You
may download your Certificate or Report by accessing your personal
area at siele.org. People who have completed the Global SIELE exam
will also receive a digital badge for personal or authorized third party use.
