Filling involves filling a cavity with a material of
your choice, including porcelain, gold, amalgam
and composite resin.
About 71% of US population suffer from cavity

11. Tooth Filling Procedure Process
Dental filling is a painless procedure
that can be completed in one visit.
It is typically opted for when you
have cavity or damaged tooth.
The dentist will first remove the
affected part of your teeth by laser
or drilling, remove bacteria, and then
fill up using your preferred form of
filling.
The process may cause you to feel
sensitivity, but it is not typically very
painful and can be reduced with the
help of sedation.
12. Aftercare
• Different types of filling materials
take different amount of time to
set. In case of gold, amalgam and
composite material filling you
need to wait at least 24 to 48
hours until it sets completely.
• In case of pain, take medication.
• Chew on the opposite side of the
filling for the first few hours.
• In case of severe pain or any
other issue, contact your dentist.

• Do not try to chew from the
side which is numb and allow
the anesthesia to wear off.
• Refrain from extremely cold
and hot drinks.
• Avoid biting on food that is
hard to chew.
• Avoid food that can stick to
your teeth or gums.
