This journal reflects on what the student learned in their NUR 4953 course. They discuss learning about supporting disaster victims' spiritual needs by being present with them, connecting them to spiritual advisors and family, and keeping records of patients. Faith-based institutions can also help meet spiritual needs by acting as meeting points for separated families, providing shelter and supplies, and giving spiritual guidance. The student learned about their classmates, emergency procedures at work, their role in emergencies, how to prepare an emergency kit, information on disaster response organizations, challenges in disaster planning, and the role of media in disaster management. The course helped prepare the student personally and professionally to respond to disasters.
