1. Stories bring life to your speech.
What Brings Life to a story?
Can it be done through a narrative or
through a dialogue?
What is narrating a story?
Narrating a story is simply reading the content of a story.
Example:
While I was driving the car today I had to experience a flat tyre. There was no one
to help. Suddenly a man appeared from the corner of the city and asked whether
he can help me. With my reply, “yes” he supported me to fix the spare wheel. And
I thanked him and when I offered money he refused telling he did it with a good
heart and satisfaction cannot be earned by money.
What is a story through a dialogue?
Two or more parties expressing comments, sharing ideas.
Example:
Me: My front tyre is flat. Anyone to help?
Stranger: Can I help you sir?
Me: Yes please can you replace it with the spare wheel?
Stranger: Yes. I’ll do it for you.
Me: Thanks a lot. Keep this money with you
Stranger: No Sir. I did it from my heart. Satisfaction cannot be earned by money
2. What is the best way to tell a story?
Through a narrative or through a dialogue.
We can use both.
Because Narrative create the mental pictures of the situation and the
characters involved
While dialogue make the story live and moving.
Let’s use the previous example
(Narrative)While I was driving the car in the morning I had to experience a flat
tyre. There was no one to support.
I looked around and shouted
(Dialogue) “Hello. Is there anyone to support”
(Narrative) Suddenly a man appeared from the corner of the city. A strong short
man. He asked.
(Dialogue) “Sir Can I help you.”
(Narrative) I replied to him with no hesitation,
(Dialogue) “Yes could you kindly replace the tyre for me?”
(Narrative) He did not hesitate either. And changed the tyre for me. After all I
looked at him and said
(Dialogue) “Thank you. Keep this money with you for the support you gave me”
(Narrative) He looked at me dead straight in eye and said.
(Dialogue) “No Sir. I did it from my heart. I don’t want money.
(Narrative) But what he said next was truly inspiring.
(Dialogue) “Sir Satisfaction cannot be earned through money”
(Narrative) I realized he is a man out of the men.
