Women took on new roles during World War I in industries and jobs traditionally dominated by men. This included factories, transportation, and engineering. The government sought to utilize women's skills while also attempting to promote traditional family values. As the war progressed, more women engaged in supporting the war effort through work and food conservation efforts. Some women even began serving as soldiers in the Russian army during the Russian Revolution.
