2. Conveying the belief that our church finds
everyone to be special to God and therefore to us.
3. • Arrive 30 minutes before the service begins.
If you are not familiar with the building, arrive
earlier to get the lay of the land. You will want to
be able to offer guests directions to the Fellowship
Hall and Sunday School classes.
• Wear a member badge and a greeter badge. Greeter badges
are located on the lower area of the name tag boards.
4. • Outside greeters stand at portico by the circular driveway
facing Bluebonnet Street. Outside greeters should use the
wheelchair to aid impaired guests or members if needed.
Remember that the chair wheels must be in the locked
position before a person sits down and before they exit
from the chair. Extra chairs are available in the chapel closet
if a person needs to take the chair into the sanctuary.
5. • Inside greeters stand at the doors to the Narthex.
Encourage all those entering to retrieve a nametag.
Nametags assist greeters in identifying those who
may not have received a nametag. Greeters should
encourage guests to visit the information desk
and sign the guest book. Assisting the guest to the
Welcome Desk offers an opportunity to link the guest
with another member and enhance the welcoming
efforts. Attempt to welcome guests again during the
“Passing of the Peace” portion in service.
7. • Greet everyone entering church and leave them
with the perception of being the most important
person you met today.
• Be observant for those needing directions or
assistance.
• Acknowledge those leaving after church and wish
them a good day or a blessed day.
10. • Be alert to those parking in guest or first-time
visitor slots. If possible, outside greeters
should escort these folks to the greeters at
the entry doors and introduce them so they can
be referred to the Welcome Desk.
11. • Greeters should remain in position until the
last car has entered the parking lot. If possible,
sit towards the back of the sanctuary and be on
the lookout for late arrivals.
12. You are APPRECIATED! Greeters have an
important impact on our church. If you are
unable to greet on “your” Sunday, please find
a substitute.
13. After the last service, the Sanctuary Angel checks the sanctuary and
does the following:
• Straighten up the books and other items in the pews
• Pick up all trash left and dispose of it in trash can located
at the Welcome Desk
• Pick up all bulletins and other papers and puts them on
the ushers podium outside the sanctuary doors for
recycling.
• Contacts the Welcome Committee chair if unable to fulfill
their assigned day.
14. • After the service, take photos of new members
with the church camera located on the wall, left
of the door, in the Sound Room.
• Sharon will print out the photos for you or an
office volunteer (currently Nita Winslet) to put
on the bulletin board with their name.
• If the Pastors have not done so, ask the new
member to fill out the New Member Information Form
and put the copy in the “New Member Box” in the
workroom and put the original form and camera in
Sharon Pehl’s box.
15. New Members should receive a white Welcome Package from the Welcome
Desk upon joining.
• Guide the new members around the church to familiarize them with the
lay of the land.
• Extend and Invitation to Coffee by giving them a form.
• If after the first service or Sunday School class offer them
coffee or donuts in the Fellowship Hall.
• Review the Sunday School class offerings and assist with a choice.
• Review the Bible Studies Sign-Up sheet and various opportunities for
new members to become involved.
16. The copy of the New Member Form will alert
Jack Kennedy (or other) to email pastors, the
Lay Leader (initiates welcome call ),
Paul Ruppenthal (assembles name tag),
Marti Pogue, Chair Of Welcoming,
(writes welcoming notes) and any other
individuals requesting to be contacted when
a new member joins.
