WWL Guidelines
• The WWL is a role model for the University and must refrain from all actions that
may offend or discriminate against people of any race, color, religion, sex, sexual
orientation, age, national or ethnic origin, physical or mental disability, or marital
or veteran status or any other characteristic protected by state or federal laws.
• All WWLs must abide by the guidelines set forth in the Guide to Pride and the
Living Factor and all University policies.
• The WWL must be aware of, accept, understand, comply with and ensure
enforcement of all University policies and regulations while participating in the
Welcome Week program.
– The promotion of illegal activities such as drug use or under-age drinking will not be
permitted.
• As a Welcome Week Leader you are expected to maintain an appropriate standard
of behavior. If you compromise your integrity by violating University policy, or
behave in a fashion that would diminish their effectiveness, you will be subject to
disciplinary action and possible termination.
Social Media – Use it wisely
Lesson:
If you don’t have something nice to
say, don’t Tweet, Facebook, or
Tumblr it.
WWL Expectations
• Arrive on time, ready and excited to work.
• Always be an ambassador for the University, which means representing Hofstra respectfully,
openly, and to the best of your ability.
• WWLs are expected to show strong leadership and interpersonal skills, high-energy, self-
motivation, school pride, and enthusiasm.
• The Welcome Week Leader (WWL) must display qualities of maturity, leadership,
responsibility, integrity and fairness.
• General responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing personal assistance to
students; informing students of, and referring students to, appropriate information
resources; maintaining a safe and orderly environment; and explaining and enforcing
University rules and regulations.
• You are expected to establish and maintain a supportive working relationship with all of your
fellow Welcome Week Leaders, Welcome Week Coordinators, Orientation Leaders, Resident
Assistants, and the members of the Hofstra faculty and administrative staff.
– Be aware that any University Staff member is available to help with any problems that
may arise. You are not expected to fix a student’s issue on your own.

Hofstra
• What characteristics did they have that left an
impression on you?
• You have this same opportunity through

welcome week leaders, what can you do to
make that difference?
How to make a difference!
