The bi-monthly report summarizes the tasks completed by an intern at PIPS during their summer internship from June 9th to 25th. The intern collected legislation from 2014, 2011, and 2008 to contribute to PIPS' online laws database. They also assisted in writing budget cut motions for the 2014-2015 federal budget and drafting parliamentary speeches. Additionally, the intern researched the differences between supplementary grants and excess grants and supplemented an existing 14-page research paper on democracy within 24 hours. The database work is ongoing and expected to be completed by the end of the internship.

Sir,
It is submitted that since the inception of the Summer Internship program at PIPS,
the following is an account of the tasks fulfilled and duties bestowed upon the
undersigned internee till date.
The first duty undertaken was that assigned by Sir Muhammad Aslam Waseem the
collection of Acts and Ordinances for PIP’s own online laws database. Years were
assigned to each intern so that the downloading and gathering process would be
systematic. Research has been heavily conducted since the first reporting day, with
the slow but steady accumulation of legislation of the Gazette of Pakistan. All
Pakistani laws in the years 2014, 2011 and 2008 have been collected and
maintained by the undersigned.
Assistance was also provided to Sir Jam Aslam in the writing of budgetary cut
motions for the Federal Budget 2014-2015 which has since passed. Relevant
clauses from the respective department where the budget was in dispute were
discussed and extracted from the Federal Budget handbook, and propositions for
depleting the suggested amount were made.
Parliamentary speeches for eminent MNAs were also scribed and brainstorming
sessions were had in providing innovative solutions and suggestions for the
pressing problems in Pakistan to include into their budgetary speeches.
Sir Waseem assigned a small-scale research project on the difference between
Supplementary Grants for Demands and Excess Grants for Demands, focusing on
the benefits of the latter with respectto the former, and the definitions,
functionality and Parliamentary procedureof the twain. The 4-page research

2. assignment is currently being reviewed and the possibility of it being included in
the next monthly publication of PIPS is aspired.
A 14-page research assignment on the topic of ‘Democracy’ was paraphrased, and
new material was added to the existing text, the completion of which was within 24
hours of it being assigned.
Work is being conducted on the timely completion of the database, which is
expected to be completed within the duration and upon the culmination of this
internship.
It is through the guidance and supportof the sitting senior officers that quality
work and an amicable and productive work environment is achieved and
experienced, for which enough gratitude cannot be expressed.
