Reggaeton is a Latin music genre that blends reggae rhythms with Latin styles like merengue, bomba, and plena. It has a heavy, percussive beat called "dembow" influenced by soca music from Trinidad. Reggaeton mixes these elements with electronic dance music, hip-hop, and Spanish/Spanglish rap to create a popular, driving sound embraced by Hispanic youth worldwide. Though many reggaeton singers are from Puerto Rico and Panama, it originated from the blending of Jamaican reggae with influences from North American hip-hop and Puerto Rican rhythms in Panama and Puerto Rico.
