Corporate firewalls work by using a proxy server to connect internal networks to the internet instead of connecting directly. An administrator sets up the firewall which uses FTP to forward files over TCP/IP networks between the internal network and the internet through the proxy server. The administrator then manages both the computer systems and the network protected by the firewall.
