The MAX IV Laboratory is a national synchrotron facility located at Lund University with an annual budget of €11M. It consists of the existing MAX-lab facility and the new MAX IV project, which will make it the brightest soft X-ray source in the world when completed in 2016. MAX IV will study materials using electromagnetic radiation, attracting nearly 1000 users annually from academia and industry to conduct research in fields such as materials science, chemistry, and biology. Some examples of research include studies of bone, semiconductors, proteins, and catalysts.
