Web design and development is the process of creating websites and consists of front-end and back-end development. Front-end development involves using languages like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to define webpage layout, content, and appearance. Back-end development uses languages like PHP and databases to create the functionality and backbone of the site. While web designers and developers aim to create websites, one person can perform both the design and development roles.
