Weasel words are phrases used in advertising and marketing to make claims without committing to the actual truth or taking responsibility. They give the appearance of providing valuable information but don't make clear, direct statements. Weasel words are employed to avoid making promises that can't be legally upheld or verified. Examples include vague terms like "helps," "improved," and "acts" that don't specify how or how much, and words like "seems," "appears," and "looks" that discuss impressions rather than facts. Weasel words provide wiggle room to defend against criticism of claims that may be misleading or untrue.
