2. The Global Water Crisis
780 million people lack access to clean water; approximately one in
seven people
3.4 million people die each year from water-related diseases
Lack of access to clean water and sanitation kills children at a rate
equivalent of a jumbo jet crashing every four hours.
Women around the world spend 200 million hours a day collecting water
5. A non-profit organization founded in 2010 by Mary Jordan to promote
social justice and environmental awareness through art and technology.
The Water Tank Project
6. A landmark public art initiative designed
to transform city skylines and revolutionize
the way we see our most precious resource:
WATER
Our Inaugural Project
7. To drive awareness of water being a global crisis and inspire action through
a promise:
-Promise to change behaviors of yourself, friends and family
-Promise to conserve
-Promise to donate
-Promise to create a dialogue with policy makers
Our Mission:
9. The Water Tank Project will launch with big impact in the U.S. and build a movement of inspiration,
awareness and change that will take it around
the world.
The map below illustrates cities across five continents that possess water tanks waiting to be
transformed into beacons of environmental activism.
A Global “Ripple” Effect
10. NYC was built and remains dependent on clean
water — more than 1.1 billion gallons each day.
Much of that water sits directly above our heads in
the city’s more than 17,000 iconic wooden water
tanks.
NYC will serve as the guiding beacon and
megaphone to the world for the project.
