1) The students learned about the water cycle through reading a story, doing a rain dance, learning vocabulary words in small groups, acting out the water cycle process, and completing a sequencing activity. They demonstrated their understanding by explaining the water cycle model.
2) Vocabulary words on the water cycle process - evaporation, condensation, collection, and precipitation - were taught through small group lessons and acting them out.
3) Students enjoyed acting out the steps of the water cycle and explaining the water cycle model at the end.

Water Cycle
1. 1 GRADE
ST
WATER CYCLE
Jamie Kientz, Marah Hays, Jenny Heerey, & Brianna
Taught by: Boyce
2. THE HOOK
Marah came into the
classroom wearing rain gear.
She told the students a story
about her trip to class in the
rain.
We also had a water cycle kit
set up in the corner of the
classroom.
3. LITERATURE
Jamie read “Rain” by ManyaStojic to the class.
The book was about
animals in the jungle.
While reading, Jamie
paused to ask students
questions about events
in the story.
4. RAIN DANCE
We guided the students in a “Rain Dance.”
The students rubbed their hands
together, snapped their fingers (or clicked their
tongues), drummed on their thighs, and then
stomped their feet to simulate the sounds of a
rainstorm.
5. SMALL GROUP LESSON
The students split into four small groups to
learn about the steps of the water cycle.
We modeled one of the vocabulary words
(condensation, evaporation, collection, and
precipitation) to each group.
After the small group lesson, each group
taught the rest of the class their vocabulary
word.
6. KINESTETIC WATER CYCLE
SKIT
After learning all four vocabulary words, the
students performed actions that matched the
vocabulary words.
The students really liked this activity!!!
