4. Story boarding is the first major step to direct
the vision of the creator.
Story-boarding in simple words is sketching
or drawing done to portray the first draft of
the creator/director’s vision
5. Story-boarding can be done through
two mediums.
Traditional method = which is done
through hand painting or sketching
Digital medium = Digital drawing
is when a drawing is created using a
software. Instead of using a pencil and
paper.
Digital artists draw with a tablet or a
computer, along with a device such as a
mouse or a stylus.
6.
7. 3D-Modelling is the process of creating the environment or character
using polygons to define the surface.
Each polygon has four sides and in-turn two triangles make up a
polygon.
Therefore several number of polygons adjacent to each other form a
model
Example :- the T-Rex from Jurassic world fallen kingdom is made up
of approximately a billion polygons.
MODELING
8. A Game engine harnesses the power of graphics processing
unit (GPU) to deliver visuals. It is a software framework
primarily designed for the development of video games.
Recently the most popular game engine called
unreal engine is being used in visual effects industry for
pre-visualization .
9. In real-life to carve something out of clay or rock we use
sculpting tools.
Similarly in digital sculpting we can carve the model to make
it into a desired shape. sculpting is done using graphic tablets
where the amount of pressure we apply on the stylus directly
relates to depth of a cut on the 3d-model.
Sculpting
10. Once the model is created and sculpted , in order to apply
textures on the surface , we need to unwrap the model.
UV-wrapping = It the process of slicing the 3d model into a 2d
figure in an efficient manner.
UV-Editing
11.
12. Texturing is process projecting 2d images onto 3d model’s
surface .
It involves adding skin details , tile textures etc..
Texturing
13. After texturing the model still looks fake .
Shading is the process of creating displacement and specular
roughness to the surface of the texture.
These two textures are represented in gray-scale format.
Shading

15. In human body we have bones to control the motion of our hands
and limbs.
Similarly for C.G.I characters bones are created to control or
manipulate the motion of the model.
Rigging
16. The final step in visual effects is integrating the C.G.I shot onto the live
action shot.
In the live action the actors are shot against a green screen, Which can
be easily replaced by CGI.
