Ashok Bagdy, the vice president of outsourcing services at Cameo Corporate Services Limited, volunteers with the Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation in Tampa, Florida. The Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation operates over 50,000 schools in remote parts of India that were founded in 1980 by Dr. Rakesh Popli to help underserved citizens. In 2014, one of its most successful fundraisers was held in Cincinnati, Ohio, where the foundation's international conference raised $150,000 for victims of flooding in Kashmir.
World Health Organization’s ICD-10 and Current Compliance Efforts
Ashok Bagdy holds an executive position with Cameo Corporate Services and has extensive experience with medical coding, including preparing for the October 2015 ICD-10 deadline required by HIPAA. ICD-10, developed by the WHO, standardizes health problem and death recording to efficiently store and retrieve diagnostic data for epidemiological and clinical use, and allows the WHO to generate health statistics. The transition to ICD-10 in the U.S. is guided by resources at www.cms.gov and Medscape Education learning modules.

At his current firm, Ashok Bagdy provides healthcare facilities and hospitals with virtual scribes.
- 3. The role of a scribe in medicine is to create a report of a patient’s medical history and examination. Virtual scribes work without any need for human intervention as they can be connected virtually during an appointment and it fills all the details needed in the Electronic Health Records. The most important thing that a virtual scribe does, is that it buys time. In this way, no other doctors need to be present and they can see more patients during a day and if needed the physician can review and update the scribe.
- 4. Virtual scribes can cut costs and save space as an in-person scribe would require a desk, chairs, and a locker. Virtual scribes also lead to a better patient-doctor relationship as it is less intrusive since there’s no other in-person scribe in the room to assist the examination.
