A Virgin Atlantic Airbus A330-300 landed on a flooded runway at Saint Lucia's airport on December 24th, 2013. Heavy rainfall had caused a nearby river to flood the airport, washing away the weather station and submerging the runway in mud and water. The aircraft touched down without warning and sustained substantial damage to its landing gear, but all passengers and crew were uninjured. The airport was closed on the 24th and 25th of December due to flooding and remained closed beyond the 26th despite plans to reopen, stranding passengers and diverting flights.
