Some parts based on Esselman, Thomas C.M. (1998) ""Who Do You Say That I Am?" Christological Perspectives on Leadership in the VincentianTradition,"Vincentian Heritage Journal: Vol. 19 : Iss. 1 , Article 1.
The document discusses several key aspects of faithfully living out and proclaiming the gospel. It emphasizes that we are called to practices that shape us to be a community of faithful presence for others and make God concrete amid the world's struggles. It also discusses preaching to proclaim the good news, teaching others, and living out the gospel by caring for those in need as we have been called to do by Jesus. The overarching message is that the gospel compels Christians to both proclaim and demonstrate God's love for all people.
The document discusses how God restores his presence over the earth through faithful people. It explains that God uses those faithful to him to make himself known amid the world's struggles. Several Bible passages are referenced that speak of God dwelling among his people. The author argues that the church is God's plan to be present in the world, and that faithful practices are needed to shape Christians into a community that embodies God's presence for others.
This document outlines six roles of Jesus: prophet, priest, king, servant, evangelist, and teacher/trainer. As a prophet, Jesus spoke truth and healed people without concerning himself with politics. As a priest, he provided access to God and offered the sacrifice of himself. As a king, he was of royal lineage and acknowledged as such, establishing a kingdom of love and forgiveness. As a servant, Jesus served God and all people, including sinners. As an evangelist, he brought people to God through faith in him and turned people from darkness to light. As a teacher and trainer, he used prayer, example, and instruction to call disciples and send them out to spread his message.
The document discusses the importance of faithful presence and spiritual disciplines in forming communities where God's presence is made real. It emphasizes that at communion, we submit to Jesus as Lord, to his presence among us, to one another to form God's kingdom, and to having our priorities realigned to that kingdom through sharing what we have. The goal is for the church to model a new political order that subverts other allegiances through faithfully gathering at the table.

This is our third sermon in our series on what we believe at Countryside Baptist Church. This sermon is focused on some basic aspects of what we believe about Jesus, God the Son, and includes our doctrinal statement on Jesus from The Baptist Faith and Message.
The document discusses the origins and meaning of the term "church" in the Bible. It notes that in the New Testament, "church" referred to groups of believers who would meet regularly in homes to worship, study the Bible, and share fellowship. Over time, as Christianity grew, dedicated buildings became the standard place of worship. However, the core meaning of the church remains the unified body of believers worldwide who are joined through their shared faith in Jesus Christ as the Son of God. The church's purpose is to continue Jesus's work by spreading the gospel message and discipling new believers.
God's mission and the Church's mission originate from God. God's plan is for the salvation of all people. Jesus preached an inclusive kingdom of God and reached out to all people, even outsiders. Jesus' life and teachings demonstrated God's self-giving love for humanity. The Church continues Jesus' mission of proclaiming the kingdom of God and bringing people into relationship with God.
The document discusses how early Christians cared for the poor and vulnerable through acts of service, sharing resources, and seeing all people as neighbors and family. It provides examples from the Bible of Jesus teaching about caring for "the least of these" and stories where not helping others in need can lead to spiritual consequences. The interpretation is that truly following Jesus means embracing and helping all people in need, regardless of differences, as part of participating in God's kingdom.

St. Vincent had a divine fire that drove him to proclaim Jesus Christ and serve the poor. He was able to touch peoples' hearts and inflame them with faith and love through his simple talks. As a result of his own experience with Jesus Christ, he was able to develop a lively catechesis to make the faith understandable to others using familiar language. St. Vincent encourages Vincentians to always listen to God, who will inspire our words as we proclaim the Gospel and serve those in need.
The sign of the cross is the most basic Christian gesture of prayer that confesses faith in Christ who suffered on the cross for humanity. It signifies belief that through Jesus' suffering, death, and resurrection, the cross was transformed from a symbol of shame into one of hope and God's saving love. Making the sign of the cross places a person under the cross' protection and reminds them to follow Christ's example of sacrifice as they face life's hardships, accepting their baptismal commitment to imitate Jesus in suffering.

Want to restore the joy of your salvation? Then consider these astoundingly joy-inducing scriptures. This is truly good news, not just partially good news! From a talk given by Pastor Brent Lokker at Blazing Fire Church 11-3-18. BlazingFire.org
1) The passage describes Jesus' ascension into heaven and his promise to send the Holy Spirit.
2) It tells of two angels appearing to tell the disciples that Jesus will return in the same way he ascended.
3) It notes that the disciples then returned to Jerusalem and gathered together in prayer.
This document contains a lesson about how Jesus treated others and how we can follow his example. It discusses how Jesus saw people with sympathy and valued each person. It provides examples of how Jesus accepted everyone, including Samaritans; made friends by having his disciple Andrew share the gospel with others; treated others in a special way by listening to them and seeing their potential; and took advantage of opportunities to help others and share the gospel message. The lesson encourages readers to learn to treat others the way Jesus did by seeing everyone as valuable and with the potential to become part of God's kingdom.
The document summarizes key events of the Last Supper and their significance:
- Jesus instituted the Eucharist at the Last Supper, commanding Christians to commemorate his sacrifice. By eating bread and drinking wine, believers partake in his body and blood.
- At Mass, the bread and wine become the real body and blood of Christ through transubstantiation, allowing believers to receive him.
- The Last Supper exemplified Jesus' commandment to love one another as he loved us, even to the point of sacrificing himself. It remains the center of Catholic worship.
This document provides lessons on how to treat others from the example of Jesus. It discusses how Jesus saw everyone as having inherent worth and a potential to accept salvation. It encourages viewing others with God's sympathy, without regard to differences, and seeing their potential. Examples are given of Jesus healing the blind man when brought by friends and traveling through Samaria to minister to all people. The importance of building relationships to introduce people to Jesus is highlighted through the example of Andrew telling his brother and others. Jesus is shown dealing patiently with difficult people and seeing reflection of God in all. The lessons encourage recognizing opportunities God provides to share the Gospel.
This chapter discusses how Jesus embodied God's missionary purpose and sent the Holy Spirit to empower the church for mission. It argues that Jesus was God's "sent one", who called his followers to go wherever he goes and do whatever he does. As the kingdom bearer and great commissioner, Jesus mandated the church to make disciples of all nations. The book of Acts then describes how the early church partnered with God through the Spirit to spread the gospel message to both Jews and Gentiles.
The document provides descriptions and summaries of the stained glass windows at St. Catherine of Siena Parish. It includes summaries of the biblical scenes depicted in 10 windows, including The Annunciation, The Nativity, The Miracle at Cana, The Transfiguration, Pentecost, The Resurrection, Christ the King of the Universe, The Martyrdom of St. Stephen, The Good Samaritan, and Jesus Cleanses Ten Lepers. Each window summary includes the relevant biblical passage and a short reflection question.
THE SABBATH SCHOOL - 4th QUARTER 2020 - LESSON 9.Adam Hiola
The document discusses the role of the church in education. It states that the church is called to be a university where people can learn from Jesus as the Master Teacher. It describes how the early church gathered in small groups to share their faith and grow in truth. The mission of the church is to bring light and hope to the world by reflecting God's kindness through being humble, merciful, and peaceful. The church should continue seeking truth from the Bible and sharing Jesus, whether in large or small gatherings. A right example of Christianity in daily life can benefit others more than mere words of profession.
This document discusses the benefits of Christ's atoning sacrifice, including his resurrection, ascension, enthronement in heaven, and ongoing mediation and work through the Holy Spirit. It explains that through Christ's death and resurrection, he guarantees our own resurrection and provides a way for salvation. Now in heaven, Christ applies salvation to believers and advocates for them to the Father. The Holy Spirit continues Christ's work on earth, drawing people to repentance and sanctifying those who accept Christ's atonement.

Peter’s exhortation to his readers to abide by governmental laws is a good reminder to those believers who tend to overemphasise God’s power to achieve their own purposes, without discerning the situation...
The document discusses Jesus Christ as the primordial and original sacrament. It states that he is the expression of God's love for humanity and the source and goal of all sacramental activities. It also describes how the sacraments arise from Christ's saving ministry and form people in his likeness through the paschal mystery. The church is presented as Christ's fundamental sacrament, as it has a relationship to Christ as the sole source of salvation and is moved by the Holy Spirit to realize God's plan of salvation through Christ.
This document discusses Eucharistic spirituality and living a Eucharistic life. It contains quotes from popes emphasizing the importance of the Eucharist in transforming the world and evangelizing surroundings. The Eucharist is about Jesus giving himself, not just a thing. Visiting with Jesus through the Eucharist can enlighten us and help us live with a penitent heart. Discovering our encounter with God involves freely accepting God's gift and witnessing to His presence in our lives and in the world through renewed presence and encounter. God promises to always be with us.
Jesus saw each person as valuable and unique, treating everyone with special care and not despising anyone. He brought down barriers by seeing others with God's sympathy. His mission was to bring salvation to all people, including those in Samaria. We can learn from Jesus' example and from Andrew to build affectionate relationships with others in order to introduce them to Jesus. We should see others as potential citizens of God's kingdom and treat them accordingly.
The Holy Eucharist is a sacrament where Catholics believe that during mass, the bread and wine truly become the body and blood of Christ through transubstantiation. It was instituted by Jesus at the Last Supper when he commanded his disciples to repeat the meal in remembrance of him. The Eucharist is seen as the central act of worship in the Catholic faith, renewing the covenant between God and humanity.
Nicodemus, a Jewish religious leader and Pharisee, visited Jesus at night to speak with him. Jesus told Nicodemus that he must be born again to see the Kingdom of God. Nicodemus did not understand how this was possible, so Jesus explained that one must be born of water and the spirit. He further explained that just as Moses lifted up the bronze snake, so must the Son of Man be lifted up so that all who believe in him will have eternal life.
This document discusses spirituality and how it relates to media culture and Jesus' hidden life in Nazareth. It asks whether we can find God in today's media, and if Jesus found God in the culture of his day through parables and life at home. The document reflects on bringing us to Jesus' home, the conversation and stories there, and how holiness is manifested. It discusses communication between God and humans, and how spirituality has been adopted by new age and other religious movements in a way that is not the Christian journey.

How St. Vincent de Paul is a model of the virtue of simplicity. An example for us in our modern world where there is a massive disconnect between image and substance.
Jesus washes the feet of his disciples to teach them an important lesson in humility. With his death approaching within the next day, Jesus demonstrates humility by performing a servant's task of washing feet. He rebukes Peter's pride and teaches that true humility is serving others, not thinking yourself above simple acts of service. Jesus calls his disciples to imitate his example of humility by humbling themselves and washing one another's feet.
St. Louise de Marillac discusses the three traditional Lenten practices of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. She compares them to the three vows of religious life and explains how they can be offered to the Blessed Trinity. St. Vincent encourages remaining peacefully in God's presence like a poor person showing their needs. St. Elizabeth Ann Seton likens each day to a ring to be engraved with good actions. Fr. Robert Maloney's letter discusses renovating one's inner dwelling for God during Lent through channeling energy used for riches and pleasures toward building a new person and refuge for the poor.
St. Vincent de Paul taught that the virtue of mortification, or self-discipline and denial of worldly desires, was essential to following Christ and establishing His kingdom. He urged Christians to constantly cut away evil tendencies through mortification, using the analogy of a vine-dresser pruning away harmful branches. St. Vincent encouraged his missionaries to perform acts of mortification daily and overcome themselves by submitting their will, judgment, and senses to God in order to walk the narrow path that leads to life with Jesus Christ.
Vincentian spirituality focuses on serving the poor and promoting justice. The Latin American Bishops conference in Medellin, Columbia emphasized the Church's mission to aid the poor. Missionaries are called to follow Christ's example as the evangelizer of the poor.
by Ralph Middlecamp of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Describes the times of Frederic Ozanam, the progression of his social thought, and some organizing principles or best practices when dealing with/advocating for the poor and marginalized.
The document describes 5 faces of St. Vincent de Paul: 1) The Missionary, who preached the word of God; 2) Father of the Poor, who witnessed to help the poor; 3) Vincent the Formator, who created formation programs; 4) Vincent, Contemplative in Action, who emphasized contemplation and action; 5) Vincent, the Gentlest Man of his Time, who linked gentleness with compassion. Each face is inseparable from and builds upon the others in describing St. Vincent de Paul's character and spiritual approach.
This document provides an overview of mercy and justice from a Vincentian perspective. It defines mercy and justice, explores their biblical roots, and examines how St. Vincent de Paul lived out both concepts through his pastoral work and founding organizations to serve the poor. The key aspects highlighted are Vincent's experiences that led him to focus on both the spiritual and material needs of those living in poverty, as well as his response to organize aid and advocate for basic rights and human dignity for all people.
The Confraternity of Charity was formed in 1617 when St. Vincent proposed that women in his parish organize to help those in need. It was the first expression of Vincentian charism and involved lay leadership for social action. Both the Daughters of Charity and Ladies of Charity later arose from these confraternities. The Confraternity began when St. Vincent moved parishioners to help an ill family after Mass and a meeting was held to organize assistance. Three days later the official formation of the Confraternity took place.
Elizabeth Ann Seton was a woman of deep humility. She believed humility was the foundation of all virtues and strove to live a life marked by meekness, patience, and obedience to God's will. Seton saw humility as living each moment simply and hidden before God without concern for praise or recognition from others.
Marguerite Naseau was an uneducated shepherdess who taught herself to read and began teaching other village girls. She expressed a desire to Vincent de Paul to serve the poor. He brought her to Paris and placed her under Louise de Marillac, where she readily expressed her wish to serve the poor through the Confraternity. Marguerite caught the plague from a girl she nursed and died at the Hospital of Saint Louis, with her heart filled with joy in conformity to God's will.
This document discusses maintaining the spirit of Saint Vincent de Paul 350 years after his death. It summarizes that the spirit gives identity to the mission of charity and must be maintained according to the desires of Saint Vincent and Saint Louise de Marillac. It emphasizes depending on the Holy Spirit to follow Jesus Christ in serving the poor with humility, simplicity and zeal. It concludes that cultivating this spirit is crucial for the future of the Vincentian Family.
This document provides a sermon given by Rev. Dr Ian Ellis-Jones on the topic of the "Anonymous Christ" and the Kingdom of God. Some key points:
1. Jesus came to bring abundant life. The Kingdom of God is a spiritual kingdom of love, peace and goodwill for all people.
2. While Jesus was divine, he was not the exclusive God. All people have a divine spark. The Kingdom of God exists internally in our hearts and externally as the unity of all creation.
3. The "Anonymous Christ" refers to encountering Jesus' spirit through serving others in need, as described in Matthew 25. True Christianity is following Jesus' example of serving others.
Jesus Christ is a central figure of Christianity who taught moral values like brotherhood and benevolence. He performed miracles and taught through parables. Some of his key teachings included the Beatitudes which promised blessings for humility, mercy, and peacemaking. Christianity initially faced persecution in the Roman Empire but eventually gained acceptance and became the official religion under Emperor Theodosius in 380 CE.
The document discusses how Vincent de Paul viewed Jesus as the perfect missionary and servant. Vincent saw Jesus' mission as one of serving the poor, and sought to emulate this through his own service. Today, Vincentians are called to continue serving the poor as Jesus did, through direct service as well as addressing root causes of injustice and poverty. While language and approaches may change, the core of announcing the Gospel through service remains essential.
Christ is crowned, having been received in the upper world and exalted to the highest place of power and honor at God's right hand after his ascension. His coronation gifts include sending the Holy Spirit to dwell within believers and empowering them, as described in the Book of Acts. The New Testament writers repeatedly affirm that Christ has been crowned with glory and honor. While crucified on earth, he now reigns from heaven as the crowned ruler over all creation, according to God's plan.
THE CRUCIFIX – A POWERFUL SYMBOL ... EVEN FOR MODERN DAY UNITARIANSDr Ian Ellis-Jones
This document discusses the symbolism and meaning of the crucifix for modern Unitarians. It provides perspectives from various Christian traditions that see the crucifixion of Jesus as representing self-sacrifice and calling believers to follow that example. The document also discusses esoteric interpretations of Jesus' life events as archetypes for spiritual development, and views Jesus as providing a way to be freed from selfishness and reunited with the divine. Overall, the crucifix is presented as a powerful symbol of sacrificial love that still resonates today.
Jesus Christ himself should be the central focus of Christianity. The sermon discusses how Christ himself is the essence and proof of his own gospel and salvation. He is not just the doctrines, commands, or experiences, but the living Lord. Having faith in Christ himself above all else is emphasized.
This is my talk to the public at St Mary's Church (Twickenham), which explore the Christian views on Jesus of Nazareth, soon proclaimed as the "Son of God" and much later (the Creed of the Nicaea in 325 CE) as "begotten from the substance of the Father". At the end people were encouraged to ask questions
123 Firstborn Over All Creation, The Indescribable GiftRick Peterson
Christ must have precedence over all other things.
St. Augustine wrote, “Christ is not valued at all unless He be valued above all.”
Christ is not Lord at all unless He is Lord of all. To some people Jesus is nothing.
To others, He is something.
Then there are those to whom Jesus is everything.
No words can define or describe God’s gift of His Son. It is a gift that defies description, that transcends superlatives, and exceeds our imaginative powers.
This is a study of the great prayer of Jesus in John 17 in which he prays for the sanctification of his followers. It is a study of the whole idea of sanctification,
This is a study of Jesus being intellectual. He had a brilliant mind in teaching and debate, and we are to seek to know the mind of Christ in order to live in the wisdom of our Lord and Savior.
(1) This course provides an overview of the identity of Jesus Christ through teaching and discussion. The objectives are to rediscover the basic tenets of Christianity, gain confidence in defending the faith, and learn strategies for evangelism.
(2) The document explores what the New Testament says about Jesus, including his humanity as a man who experienced human emotions and limitations, his divinity as God's son who performed miracles and was worshipped, and his ministry of teaching, healing, and commissioning disciples.
(3) It examines the reliability of the New Testament as a historical source and evidence from Roman historians that Jesus existed. It also considers what Jesus' death and resurrection meant for salvation and his core
The document outlines Pope Francis's itinerary for his apostolic journey to Egypt from April 28-29, 2017. The schedule includes his arrival in Cairo, meetings with political leaders, an interfaith peace conference with the Grand Imam of al-Azhar, mass, and a meeting with clergy and religious. The key topics covered are promoting interreligious dialogue and cooperation, and condemning violence in the name of religion.

This is a study of the nature of Jesus in that He is the same yesterday, today and forever. He never changes and we can count on that and trust Him to always be who He is.
The document discusses how Jesus Christ remains unchanged and unchanging despite changes in the world. It makes three key points:
1) When the author of Hebrews wrote decades after Jesus' crucifixion, Christianity had not achieved visible triumph and doubts surrounded Hebrew Christians. Yet the author boldly declared Jesus, who was crucified and absent, as the same yesterday, today and forever.
2) Jesus provides permanence and anchorage in a changing world. He transcends all systems and institutions that come and go. Personal identity with Christ allows for continuous progress in Christian thought.
3) The living Christ interacts with believers today with the same love, power and salvation as in the past. Personal experience verifies

The pastor argues that Jesus Christ cannot be bound by human ideas or institutions. The resurrection shows that Jesus is Lord of all people, not just one group. Jesus is calling believers out of religious bondage and into new life. Jesus accepts people of every nation and is not limited by human categories, as shown when he saved the Gentile Cornelius despite Peter's objections. Christ's resurrection power cannot be contained by any church, theology, or political group. Jesus is Lord of all.

Understanding the significance of this locust army provides insight into the broader themes of divine judgment, protection, and the ultimate triumph of God’s will as depicted in Revelation.
Introduction
Mantra Yoga is an exact science. "Mananat trayate iti mantrah- by the Manana (constant thinking or recollection) of which one is protected or is released from the round of births and deaths, is Mantra." That is called Mantra by the meditation (Manana) on which the Jiva or the individual soul attains freedom from sin, enjoyment in heaven and final liberation, and by the aid of which it attains in full the fourfold fruit (Chaturvarga), i.e., Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha. A Mantra is so called because it is achieved by the mental process.

Lucid Dreaming: Understanding the Risks and Benefits
The ability to control one's dreams or for the dreamer to be aware that he or she is dreaming. This process, called lucid dreaming, has some potential risks as well as many fascinating benefits. However, many people are hesitant to try it initially for fear of the potential dangers. This article aims to clarify these concerns by exploring both the risks and benefits of lucid dreaming.
The Benefits of Lucid Dreaming
Lucid dreaming allows a person to take control of their dream world, helping them overcome their fears and eliminate nightmares. This technique is particularly useful for mental health. By taking control of their dreams, individuals can face challenging scenarios in a controlled environment, which can help reduce anxiety and increase self-confidence.
Addressing Common Concerns
Physical Harm in Dreams Lucid dreaming is fundamentally safe. In a lucid dream, everything is a creation of your mind. Therefore, nothing in the dream can physically harm you. Despite the vividness and realness of the dream experience, it remains entirely within your mental landscape, posing no physical danger.
Mental Health Risks Concerns about developing PTSD or other mental illnesses from lucid dreaming are unfounded. As soon as you wake up, it's clear that the events experienced in the dream were not real. On the contrary, lucid dreaming is often seen as a therapeutic tool for conditions like PTSD, as it allows individuals to reframe and manage their thoughts.
Potential Risks of Lucid Dreaming
While generally safe, lucid dreaming does come with a few risks as well:
Mixing Dream Memories with Reality Long-term lucid dreamers might occasionally confuse dream memories with real ones, creating false memories. This issue is rare and preventable by maintaining a dream journal and avoiding lucid dreaming about real-life people or places too frequently.
Escapism Using lucid dreaming to escape reality can be problematic if it interferes with your daily life. While it is sometimes beneficial to escape and relieve the stress of reality, relying on lucid dreaming for happiness can hinder personal growth and productivity.
Feeling Tired After Lucid Dreaming Some people report feeling tired after lucid dreaming. This tiredness is not due to the dreams themselves but often results from not getting enough sleep or using techniques that disrupt sleep patterns. Taking breaks and ensuring adequate sleep can prevent this.
Mental Exhaustion Lucid dreaming can be mentally taxing if practiced excessively without breaks. It’s important to balance lucid dreaming with regular sleep to avoid mental fatigue.
Lucid dreaming is safe and beneficial if done with caution. It has many benefits, such as overcoming fear and improving mental health, and minimal risks. There are many resources and tutorials available for those interested in trying it.
The pervasiveness of Lying in today's World.pptxniwres
In our interconnected world, lies weave through the fabric of society like hidden threads. We encounter them in politics, media, personal relationships, and even within ourselves. The prevalence of deception raises profound questions about truth, trust, and the human condition.

Astronism, Cosmism and Cosmodeism: the space religions espousing the doctrine...Cometan
This lecture created by Brandon Taylorian (aka Cometan) specially for the CESNUR Conference held Bordeaux in June 2024 provides a brief introduction to the legacy of religious and philosophical thought that Astronism emerges from, namely the discourse on transcension started assuredly by the Cosmists in Russia in the mid-to-late nineteenth century and then carried on and developed by Mordecai Nessyahu in Cosmodeism in the twentieth century. Cometan also then provides some detail on his story in founding Astronism in the early twenty-first century from 2013 along with details on the central Astronist doctrine of transcension. Finally, the lecture concludes with some contributions made by space religions and space philosophy and their influences on various cultural facets in art, literature and film.

Lição 12: João 15 a 17 – O Espírito Santo e a Oração Sacerdotal | 2° Trimestr...OmarBarrezueta1
18. Philippians 2.1-11 “ Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bend, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
