Pazhassi Raja was the prince regent of the kingdom of Kottayam in Kerala who resisted British rule from 1793 to 1805. Also known as the "Lion of Kerala", he fought two revolts against the British before being defeated in 1805 by General Arthur Wellesley. Pazhassi Raja drew support from military leaders like Kannavath Sankaran Nambiar and directed operations from leaders including Edachena Kunkan and Kaitheri Ambu.
