The Vesuvius Volcano is located in a subduction zone environment where basaltic magma forms from partial melting at the boundary between the descending and overriding tectonic plates. The magma contains around 52% SiO2 and minerals like plagioclase feldspar and pyroxene. Magma differentiation processes such as fractional crystallization occur as the magma rises towards the surface.
