This proposal suggests transforming the staircases in Baruch College's Vertical Campus into a "Vertical Art Gallery" to promote health, reduce costs, and provide art to students. It estimates that the elevators in the Vertical Campus consume 39,810 kWh of energy annually, costing $7,165 and producing 30.8 tons of carbon. Installing art in the staircases could reduce elevator usage by 20% by encouraging people to take the stairs, saving on energy costs and reducing carbon emissions by 6.16 tons annually. The art gallery could also provide health benefits to lower-income Baruch students by making stair use a more attractive option at no additional cost.
