In Philadelphia, there’s a neighborhood
called Manayunk. The factory
neighborhood, established sometime in
the 19th century, is located on the east
bank of Schuylkill. Manayunk though has
gone through dramatic changes in the
past two decades, as private investors
poured in millions. Today, what once was
a working class factory neighborhood
has become rather upscale, with real
estate values rising every year. The
beautiful 19th century architecture, as
well as all the popular establishments do
help in making Manayunk more
appealing.

For people who venture into Manayunk,
there are more than 30 restaurants, 18
bars, 9 cafes and co ee shops all along
Main Street, which means there will
never be a shortage of places to eat,
drink, and be merry. Add all the small
businesses, boutiques, art galleries, and
furniture outlets, and one might argue
that Manayunk has everything one
needs all on a single street.
Public transportation is a cinch, and
that’s a huge plus for any city. A lot of
students from St. Joseph’s, LaSalle, and
Temple make their home in Manayunk.
This is why residents refer to the place as
a “college town without a college.”
Prices of properties here range from
$120,000 to $500,000. Properties are
especially appealing to people who love
rolling hills. And just beyond Manayunk
is the Roxborough neighborhood, a
family-friendly community.
