- #3 Velrada works with a range of government agencies and departments both State and Federal on complex information management, systems and citizen facing service delivery initiatives.Through delivering these many projects and working with key public sector stakeholders, we have seen some emerging trends develop.We'll step through these trends using references to projects that we've delivered, and highlight what we believe are the key considerations for successful IM projects in the public sector.

- #10 DFEEST Case study (strategy / DQ / MDM / Integration) – this client works in the tertiary education sector, now in a position where they are competing with numerous other education institutions so they are leveraging other agency knowledge, external data sources and integrating them to create an insights program which brings all data sources together inside their environment to allow for analysis of that information alongside their own internal information from their systems – e.g. student profiling, social analytics, course (product) development.
- #11 APPROACHDeveloped a roadmap, dividing the program into multiple work streams and sub-tasks, to run over the course of a 9 – 12 month period.Business intelligence (BI) and Master Data Management (MDM) solution design.Leveraging existing Microsoft infrastructure Microsoft Sharepoint 2010, SQL Server 2012 and Office 2010.In addition to self-service BI, Velrada needed to implement an MDM model to solve the data quality and consistency issues.Once the MDM model and centralised BI framework was in place, interactive dashboards were identified and embedded into the SharePoint environment.Finally, SS BI was enabled through PowerView and Excel.BENEFITSSelf-service BI enabled analysis, timely reporting and improved data quality to the entire organisation. Enhanced user experience through the use of SharePoint 2010 and SQL Server 2012 to give the user a clear, concise, controlled and flexible solution within a familiar environment.Business users empowered to explore their own data and to make informed decisions. By using existing Microsoft infrastructure, the approach extended the ROI on the technology, improved productivity as it required less user training and improved cost efficiency.MDM brought consistency, quality and control over the high valued data assets. It enabled one source of truth to the business for all reporting requirements.
- #12 SITUATIONTo allocate water resources effectively across the state, the department needs to maintain key client informationTo achieve the department’s mission to support and promote economic development and efficient use of water resources, needed to dramatically improve the management of client and asset data to improve the quality and efficiency of client interactionsWas given Microsoft SPF grant to explore the opportunity to leverage Microsoft technologies to achieve business improvementsSOLUTIONA master data repository was implemented to consolidate non-transactional client and property master data. This data warehouse was then used to service other departmental business applications, including MS CRM 2011 and provided. Master Data Service’s (MDS) was implemented as a governance tool to manage data updates and an Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) was implemented and configured to provide the department with a framework for integration to key business information systems and external agencies. Microsoft SQL Server 2012 (for consolidated data warehouse) and use of MDS and Biz-talk ESB 2010 were central to delivery of the desired solution.OUTCOMEA reusable solution to establish a single source of truth for crucial whole-of-organisation master data, reducing data duplication and error, increases reliability. The value add with this solution was a proactive service which flagged changes to master data BETWEEN business dealings.BENEFITSImproved accuracy of client and land data; Providing the framework for integration to key business information systems, both internal and external to the Department;Reducing the amount of manual data entry by eliminating duplication (dual keying); Mitigating reputational risk due to inaccurate data;Improved data traceability to critical referenced data sources used by the Department (i.e. Landgate, ASIC) for client centric data validation; Meeting mandated regulatory requirement to adopt AS 4590 as a standard for Client Data Management and interagency data exchange by 2015; andPlanned alignment to the Federal Government National Compliance Standards framework.
