6. MD/MS/Diploma
• Post graduation in a particular speciality in the form of
M.D/M.S/DIPLOMA is the traditional and most sought after option
since ages.
• On successful completion of M.B.B.S internship one can join post
graduate in any speciality after obtaining the eligible pass percentile
in Post Graduate Medical Entrance Examination( PGMEE ) set by the
organizing body ( NBE, INICET )
• Candidate can attempt the PGMEE exam during their internship time
after obtaining Provisional Certificate from their respective college.

12. DNB ( Diploma in National Board )
• DNB is a Three year post graduate diploma course offered by the
National Board of Examination ( NBE) and recognised by the National
Medical Council ( NMC ).
• Unlike M.D/M.S the DNB course is primarily offered by Private
Hospitals / institute that meets the criteria of the NMC to run the
program. Nonetheless it is an equivalent to MD/MS.
• DNB candidates also receive their monthly stipend from their
respective hospitals / institute.
13. SUPERSPECIALITIES (6 year program after M.B.B.S)
• M.Ch- Magister Chirugiae
• D.M- Doctorate of Medicine
These are direct 6 years super speciality program offered by the central
institutes as well as some private institutes via the INICET and NEET-PG
entrance examination respectively.
M.Ch- Cardiothoracic, Oncosurgery, Plastic surgery, Gastro surgery,
Hepatobiliary surgery, Neuro surgery, Paediatric surgery, Urology.
D.M – Cardiology, Gastrointestinal, Endocrinology, oncology,
Haematology, Neurology, Nephrology.
15. MRB- State Medical Service
• The Medical Services Recruitment Board (MRB) of Tamil Nadu was
constituted with the objective of making appointments to various categories in the
Health and Family Welfare Department such as
• Directorate of Public Health & Preventive Medicine (DPH)
• Directorate of Medical & Rural Health Services (DMS)
• Directorate of Medical & Rural Health Services-ESI (DMS-ESI)
• Directorate of Medical Education (DME).
• Eligibility – M.B.B.S degree
• Recruitment – Through competitive examination and sometimes through open
advertisement.
16. • Job Description- Medical Officer in various government run
Health care centres and state/ National health programmes
such as RBSK.
• Pay scale starting 55,000 per month.
• Advantage- Candidates are given additional marks in the state
quota seats of NEET-PG entrance examination.
17. COMBINED MEDICAL SERVICES ( CMS )-
National Level
• The Union Public Service Commission (UPMC) conducts Combined
Medical Services examination every year in the month of July/August
for recruitment into government institutions like Railways, Municipal
Corporations as Medical officers.
• The prestige, pride and power associated with the UPSC service
attracts some sections of the M.B.B.S graduate to pursue this
pathway.
• It is a good option if you want a permanent government job and to be
part of the Health care system.

19. Army Medical Services
• A doctor who joins Indian army gets commissioned in Army Medical
Corps as Captain.
• Army Medical corps is commanded by a lieutenant general rank
officer ( doctor ) under the official designation of DGMS i.e. Director
General Medical Services.
• After getting commissioned as captain, timely promotion are
awarded.

• The demand for Doctor with an MBA degree is increasing
overwhelmingly due to the rise of many private hospitals and allied
heath companies.

21. Master in Health Administration ( MHA )
• It is a 3 year post –graduate degree ( M.D) in Health Administration
which helps medical students to acquire the skills required in
managing big speciality hospitals and clinics.

and Hospital manager can consider this option.
22. Fellowship after M.B.B.S
• Fellowship program after M.B.B.S allows the doctor to take up their
desired branch of sub-speciality without the need to pass any
entrance examination.
• Fellowship in Diabetology, clinical cardiology, Emergency Medicine,
Intensive care, sonography are some of the most preferred programs.
Unlike the conventional diplomate courses like DCH,DGO,DA ; these
fellowship are not recognised by NMC.
• Duration – 6 months to 2 years

• MRCP/MRCS is a basic speciality training that makes you eligible for
specialization in the UK. It is a three part examination process.
• MRCP/MRCS is considered at par with MD/MS in most of the
countries.
