Pollen morphology from ten Peruvian species of Prosopis genus (P. alba, P. chilensis, P. limensis, P. mantaroensis, P. pallida, P. peruviana, P. piurensis, P. purpurea, P. reptans and P. tupayachensis) was examined using light microscopy (LM), looking for new features that might contribute to clarify classification of the genus in Peru. The Prosopis species are stenopalynous, which is an agreement with observations in previous studies of other species. Pollen is shed in monads and characterized by being isopolar, radially symmetric, generally prolate, and psilate. Pollen is medium size (31.41 – 23.89 μm in P. alba and 40.65 – 22.04 μm in P. reptans), tricolporate, with long and narrow colpi, a circular endoaperture and a reduced polar area. The exine has a range between 1.72 to 2.37 μm thick.

Surface cultivation avoids herbivory encountered with sea floor cultivation.

In tanks under controlled conditions, male and female gametophytes developed within 20 days, and sporophytes reached over 400 μm in length after 60 days. Ropes with 2500 μm sporophytes were transferred to intermediate cultivation in the sea, where they grew to 36 cm in 30 days. Finally, 46 specimens 30-40 cm long were suspended from surface ropes, reaching over 3 m and 7 kg after 3 months with abundant biomass but lacking stipes and holdfasts. Surface cultivation avoids herbivory encountered with sea floor cultivation.

ABSTRACT
In the present work, cacauhy´s (Theobroma speciosum) floral biology was studied. Flower buds split their sepals at
14h reaching its maximum at 22h, but all flowers were fully opened at 6:00 h of the following morning. Stigmatic
branches showed exudates, reaching maximum between 6:00 h and 10:00 h at the same day. Ligules and petal hoods
were the floral parts with highest intensity of odour. Flowers were receptive along all the morning and noon of the
anthesis day. Approximately 65% of the flowers were naturally pollinated, but only 0.85% of them set a fruit.
Abscission occurred on its higher frequency at 6:00 h of the second day after anthesis. Controlled pollinations showed
that cacauhy was self-incompatible species.
