The person-system-role framework is considered an appropriate model to understand user-driven social enterprises. The starting point is the personal lived experiences of users and those who work with them. In transforming users into drivers of social enterprise, key roles like citizen and co-producer are important. Such personal experiences and roles are set within a context or system defined by its purpose or aim. Applying this framework to disability case studies, the authors identify that understanding lived experiences, valuing experiences of disability, promoting sharing and networking, clarifying organizational purpose, exploring co-production, and measuring user-driven enterprises are important for establishing and developing user-driven social enterprises.
