Duties:
Supervise electrical shop consisting of 7 electricians, who serviced 80 buildings, over a 332 acre campus. Maintained work
schedules, training schedules, wrote performance evaluations, and approved leave. Coordinated purchase orders and quotes
from vendors, ordered project materials, inventoried and secured materials upon arrival. Interview and hire electricians.
Accomplishments
Walkway Lighting: Installed underground conduit, wiring, and new light poles for a lighting deficiency at the Lynn Bennet
Building, Early Childhood Education Center.
Retro­fitted exterior building lighting from HPS and MH to LED which will save the university money on electrical cost for
exterior lighting across campus.
Lighting Controls: Installed new lighting controls for obsolete dimming systems in classrooms across campus.
Walk way lighting project: Managed the replacement of 300 high pressure sodium fixtures to 54 watt LED which will result in a
significant savings in electrical cost for the University and a reduction in maintenance to the walk way lighting.
Tropicana Parking Garage Project: Managed the replacement of parking garage fixtures from 200 watt metal halide bulbs to 77
watt LED with motion sensors reducing the wattage to 25% when unoccupied.
Rewiring of Campus Services Building: Project included installing outlets, emergency light, and lighting in the 80,000 square
foot building. Received a letter of accommodation from Juanita Fain Vice President for Administration,
Smart Classrooms: Installed and set up projectors, control panels for projectors and Smart Boards which included running
conduit, wire, and installing receptacle at the lecterns across campus.
Lighting Upgrade: HCH worked with the director of the theaters to find a suitable LED replacement. After trying several LED
bulbs, the 15 watt 2700k was the closet to the obsolete 150w incandescent in color, reducing the total wattage by 27,000 watts
Transformer Upgrade: Transformer Paradise Campus Building was upgraded to a larger size to accommodate the load that
was on the panel.
Sub­Station: Eliminated central sub­station that fed 4160 volts to 11 campus building. Assisted contractor who switched
buildings over to Nevada Power feed, which is 12006 volts. Set transformers and switches in each building. Assisted contractor
with logistics of where manholes were located and feeds entered the building.
Under­ground Utilities: Repaired 5KV wiring to campus building including pulling wire, splices and terminations.
Campus Work Orders: Individually completed 4,785 work orders, with a shop total of 45,036 (21,265 under my supervision)
total work orders completed on the Computerized Management Maintenance System (CMMS).
Related Skills
General Maintenance: Trouble shooting and repairing of walkway and parking lot lights. Responding to no power calls across
campus, assist HVAC shop with motor controls and finding circuit breakers, assist plumbing shop with water heaters and
pumps. Review electrical plans for new campus building. In­depth knowledge of electrical systems to include: 120/208 volt,
277/480 volt, and 5kv systems. Installing transformers, electrical panels, conduit, wiring, and light poles.
Use of a variety of electrical test equipment to include: Voltmeters, Ammeters, Ohmmeter, Fluke 87, Meger, circuit tracers,
Infrared camera, circuit analyzer, and temporary power metering for loads on panels. Skilled with hand benders, Greenlee 555
speed bender, hydraulic bender, Hilti drills, core driller, reciprocating saw, drill and drill press, welders (stick, tig, and mig), oxy
acetylene welding and basic hand tools for an electrician.
Motorized Equipment: Forklift, boom lifts, and scissor lifts,
Computer skills: Computerized Management Maintenance System (CMMS) program, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Time
Clock Manager and Email programs (Gmail, Yahoo, and Outlook), Copier, Scanner, and Fax.
Mechanical Ability and Problem Solving Skills:
Grant Hall: After up­grading air handlers at Grant Hall, the control boards kept failing. Contractor stated there was a voltage
deficiency but after checking building voltage, (which was correct), it was discovered that the contractor failed to properly
ground a control transformer in their air handler, which was inducing an erratic voltage reading and causing the control boards
to fail.
Street Lighting Student Dorms: Coached shop electrician in how to locate the short in the underground street lighting by
splitting the circuit and isolating the direction of the problem.
Thomas Beam Engineering Building: Coached shop electrician with trouble shooting feeders that shorted out underground
between two buildings by measuring between phases and finding the short to ground. Two phases were shorted to ground
which resulted in the breaker tripping instantly. New wire was pulled and problem corrected.
