Tanzania has a high maternal mortality rate, with 18% of deaths among women of reproductive age. Only 27% of married women use modern contraception. Marie Stopes Tanzania implemented a program between 2011-2015 to expand contraceptive access and reduce maternal deaths by promoting contraceptive services. They provided outreach in rural areas using mobile clinics and in peri-urban areas using auto rickshaws. Over 350,000 clients received contraception, equal to 33% of modern method use in Tanzania. They partnered with the government and addressed barriers for underserved groups like rural women and youth.
