1. DavidStarr
David has been prolific at releasing not just singles but
videos for his music over the past couple of years. His
latest offering is called You Will Come To Know. The
European djs adore this guy, who has opened for the
likes of Travis Tritt and Restless Heart and he’s very
good mates with John Oates (as in Hall & Oates) who
he has recently played with and written a song with.
David’s recent tour of the UK was very well received.
CharlottleBlack
We’ve been waiting for Charlotte to follow up her
number one Hotdisc British & Irish single, Politicians for
a long time and at last that time has come and it’s
another Ken Warke composition called Rusty Old Livin’
which is more traditional. Politicians was very well
received for its catchiness and topicality at the time and
this one should be embraced too.
Charlotte sings with choirs but enjoys performing
Country music and if she gets another number one with
the new record, many believe she could be a big name
on the homegrown scene.
Ottar‘BigHand’Johanssen
Ottar is from Norway and has been on Hotdisc before
but it’s been a few years since he last issued a track.
He’s enjoyed success on Norwegian tv and has chalked
up over 50 years in the business including being A&R
man for RCA Records seeking out Scandinavian talent.
In his career he has shared stages with Willie Nelson
and Waylon Jennings, George Jones and Johnny Cash.
There aren’t many who can boast that!
RisaBinder
American singer, Risa is the first person with that name
to be on Hotdisc, which is not too surprising. The video
for Gotta Have You has her singing and playing
mandolin in a fun setting. Some songs just tick all the
boxes and this one certainly does. There is little doubt
the song and the video will become very popular with
Risa heading for a lot of success with her fun-fuelled
music which is designed to get people into a happy
frame of mind and after all the nonsense we’ve
endured recently with political issues and shocking
behaviour from many, this is indeed a tonic!
ClairePetrie
No stranger to Hotdisc, Claire has done very well,
particularly a few months back when she teamed up
with no less a talent than T Graham Brown.
Her new solo effort is Just Another Day and it is
expected to build on her previous success. Her mum was
a pianist and drummer while her dad was into blues
piano, so it was inevitable she would take up music.
Artists likely to appear on the next Hotdisc include Gene Watson, Keith Shaw, Marty Robbins,
Brenda Burch and many others to be announced.SNEAK PEEK

NoelFlynn
The man from Meath started out as a dj but turned to
singing eight years ago. He released his first album in
2009 as well as a number of singles and he’s picked up
awards for his work. He went on the road, which proved
a successful move and three further albums later he’s
established as one of Ireland’s most popular singers.
His debut on Hotdisc sees him singing the song, Country
Playing Band.
Top: Noel Flynn; David Starr.
Middle: Ottar ‘Big Hand’ Johanssen; Risa Binder.
Bottom: Claire Petrie; Charlotte Black with Ken Warke.

2. Hotdiscchat...
The Hotdisc Top 20 tv show has passed its 50th edition now and is delighted to be part of the new Keep It Country channel
on Sky TV Channel 389, FreeSat 516 and of course now we can finally confirm we’re also on FreeView channel 87, which is
a huge boost to all programmes broadcasting on KIC.
With recent features with the likes of Canadian Tia McGraff and American singer/songwriter David Starr on the
programme it was terrific to transmit our first British interview with Dan Haynes from the duo, Calmer Wave last month.
Dan, along with Pete Richards, are the stars of the Simon & Garfunkel tribute show under the name Bookends but Dan’s
sideline project features all original material and the first single, Nice To Be Wanted, made the Hotdisc Top 30. It has a
lovely Country feel to it and the harmonies are just wonderful.
These informal and fun sessions are free to all Hotdisc clients and will give extra tv exposure to a growing audience, so if
you’ve been on Hotdisc over the past 18 years and you want to visit us here in Scotland you will be warmly welcomed. The
next session, coming later this year, will be with the Scottish duo, Raintown, featuring Clare and Paul. I can’t wait to meet
these guys and their new arrival due in the summer!
So to this month’s edition of Hotdisc and as well as the premier slot acts listed on the
left we have the brand new single from the incredibly exciting and hard working trio of
sisters, Southern Halo. The teenagers did so well with their debut single, Little White
Dress, going to number one and it’s been a while since that happened so after a long
wait they’re back with Rewind, a track from their first album. The video was shot on a
sunny beach and they clearly had fun shooting it and by the time you read this you’ll
know how well they have done with the follow-up single. I am sure it will do well for
them.
Bob Campbell has reworked the old Johnny Cash track, Hey Porter to very good effect
and I can see this being one of his most successful to date, while Kenny Butterill returns with the
very political track, Good Thing That Couldn’t Happen Here, which he hopes will give him his third Hotdisc number one.
There are lots of new names this month including Michael Eston, Darryl Worley, Luk Nichols and Chelsey Danfield who all
hope to make an impact with their first Hotdisc singles but Joey Sontz, Gordon Jensen, Stacia Watkins and Brit, Samantha
Lloyd have new songs released, along with an interesting duet between Gary Curtis and Anne Nolan from The Nolans.
As a bonus for djs this month you can hear my interview with David Starr, along with an unplugged version of his Hotdisc
number two song, Love And Sabotage.

It's great to be able to still bring the European Country music industry some brand new names as well as some old
favourites.
