Vincent van Gogh was a Dutch post-Impressionist painter and draughtsman whose work had a far-reaching influence on 20th-century art. During his lifetime he created over 2,100 artworks, including around 860 oil paintings, most of which date from the last two years of his life. He suffered from mental illness which affected his ability to function on a daily basis and ultimately led to his suicide at age 37.
