Six Simple Machines

23 second grade students (10 boys and13 girls), 12 caucasian,
11 african american. Three of which have ADHD.
Some students are visual learners while others are hands-on
or auditory.
Objective
With 100% accuracy the 2nd grade students will create a
simple machine by the end of the week after participating in
many different classroom activities such as videos, songs, a
hands on activity, and demonstrations.
Day by Day
Day 1: Introduction to simple machines
Day 2: Identifying everyday simple machines using a video.
Day 3: “The Kids’ Book Of Simple Machines” by Kelly Doudna
Day 4: Hands-on demonstration (bringing in simple machines)
Day 5: Students will create a simple machine.
Use of Technology
Projector and computer for YouTube video, all working.
Be sure to have access to the book needed.
Have all material ready for the students to create a simple
machine with.
Be prepared to bring in some small simple machines for
hands-on demonstration.
