The banker acts as an agent for collection when collecting cheques on behalf of customers. When presented with an open or uncrossed cheque by a customer, the banker must cross the cheque before sending it for collection in order to claim protection under Section 131 of relevant law. The banker collects cheques on behalf of customers and must properly endorse uncrossed cheques sent for collection.
