Unit 3 Typhoo tea advert 2011
The setting of the Typhoo advert is a little kid’s party and the dad seems to be
trying to organiseit and trying to manage the party by himself. There are many
different props and outfits creating the setting throughoutthe whole advert.
The party is taking place in a house. At the end of the advertyou see that the
party has ended and you see the dad sat on the floor drinking Typhoo tea.
While this is taking place there is no background noiselike children playing or
anything. The way Typhoo are trying to portray there product is that no
matter how hard and tough your day was a little cup of Typhoo tea will be the
highlight of your day and forget everything that’s happened. Or that you know
after a long day’s work you can be excited and get ready for the tea after. Even
amongstall the quos you can find a little bit of time to enjoy a cup of tea.
There were lots of props throughoutthe wholeadvert because it was a kid’s
party. The props in the advertare stuff like balloons and blowouts. The
blowouts are pretty loud and it makes the scene seem morehectic because of
everything going on. Balloons don’t really make a sound but they take up a lot
of spacewhen there are a lot of them and it fills the room they are in which
makes it look like more is going on. All the props make the scene look how it
does because without props werewouldn’tbe some sounds and it wouldn’t
look as manic. Without the props the scene wouldn’tbe the way it is.
The costumes show you what’s going on in the scene and it add an effect to
how the kids are enjoying themselves at their party.
The movement of the kids change the whole atmosphere of the party because
if the kids were satdown and not running round the scene wouldn’tseem too
exciting. Every prop, every movement and sound all make the sceneseem
extremely busy and claustrophobic for the viewer.
The advert has used different camera shots to make the viewer feel for the
father becauseof what he is going through. Mostof the close ups are of the
children as they are licking the cake or putting cake in the fathers face. The
reason this is happening is because it wants you to focus on whatis happening
to the father throughoutthe whole ad. The entire close ups relate to the father
because he is the main actor in the ad and he is the one struggling for space,
energy and peace and quiet. At the end of the advert there is a close up of the
Typhoo name written on the side of the cup that the dad is drinking from. After
you get a good look at the logo you get a long shot of all the surroundings of
wherethe father is sitting and you can see all the mess like confetti and
children asleep while the father takes a nice slip of the tea in silence.
The effects of the camera work simply either show you whatthe kids are doing
and how they are destroying the whole houseand then the close up of the
logo when the father has no noise and he can relax. The lighting throughout
the add is really bright becauseyou don’thave a dark and gloomy kids party.
At the end the father is sat on the floor with the big glass doors shining bright
light into the houseand it makes the cup with the Typhoo logo stand out more
because the cup was red and the light was brightwhite.
The sound was pretty loud throughoutthe whole scene until the end where he
is drinking his tea. At the startof the advertthere is nice children’s music
playing behind the prop noises being used. Then as he starts drinking the music
changes and it’s justthe delicate strings of a guitar being played to calm the
mood. The level of the music is louder when the kids are playing them softens
when it’s quiet. The sounds don’tover power the noise of the blowouts or the
balloons being shaped but everything is definitely being heard.
In the ad weknow that the tea is being drunk while it is quiet and that is how
people like to drink their tea. I know that old people like to drink their tea in
silencer and its silent in the ad so maybe is showing that its best drank while in
silence and a calming environment.
