Introduction to UNESCO Chairs at the University of Guadalajara presented by Carlos Ivan Moreno Arellano during the UNESCO Chair Working Group Meeting held in Barcelona last 29 of September.
The document discusses UNESCO's mission to promote peace, eradicate poverty, and foster sustainable development and intercultural dialogue through education, science, culture, communication and information. It summarizes an upcoming UNESCO conference in the Philippines to promote ICT standards in education and bring together stakeholders from education and industry. The conference aims to transform thinking, inspire creativity and provide insights relevant to the needs of Philippine education.
The document discusses problems with the disconnect between higher education and the working world. It argues that society has changed with the rise of information and communication technologies, but education has not adapted. This can lead to issues like cultural gaps, lack of job preparedness, and lost opportunities. The author proposes that universities need a new transversal subject using audiovisual and digital media to better connect academic and professional worlds. A study is suggested to analyze resources in Europe, compare approaches between countries, and demonstrate through practice the importance of understanding new media in today's work environments.

The Truman Commission was appointed by President Harry Truman in 1947 to examine the system of higher education in America and make recommendations. It was led by George F. Zook and issued a report in six volumes. The report found that higher education needed reforms to address issues of equal access, affordability, and curriculum in order to better serve the needs of a democratic society and growing student population in the aftermath of World War II. The Commission recommended expanding access to higher education, integrating vocational and academic education, and increasing federal support for scholarships and aid.
The document discusses how neoliberalism has affected higher education and equality of opportunity. It notes that neoliberalism allows private interests to control social life for profit. This has negatively impacted faculty, students, and society. Additionally, neoliberalism promotes the idea of "marketopia" where people are solely seen as consumers. The document concludes that in order to achieve equal opportunity in education, the notions of neoliberalism, marketopia and capitalism must be challenged as they have corporatized schools.
The document discusses media education in the Finnish national curriculum. It outlines 7 cross-curricular themes in basic education according to the 2004 National Core Curriculum, including media skills and communication. It presents media education as both a subject matter and a cross-curricular theme that can be incorporated into various school subjects and learning methods. The document also discusses different approaches to conceptualizing media education, such as subject didactics versus general didactics, and connecting school curriculum to media culture.

The Right To Education Roma Students In The European UnionMelany Williams
The role of the European Union is extremely important in the promotion of human rights for the Roma. European Union conditionality has been a key motivator in inducing Central and Eastern European acceding states to implement policies of non-discrimination towards their Roma minorities. The European Union continues to be an important leader in the promotion of minority rights for the Roma living in its new member states. My paper examines the right to education, and seeks to determine whether or not this right is being equally accorded to Roma EU citizens. My paper examines Roma cultural perspectives on education and closes with some recommended interventions to increase access to and quality of education for the Roma living in the European Union.

Ethnic Minority Education in the UK 1940's - 1980'smajesticstomach05
The document discusses ethnic minority education in the UK from the 1940s to the 1980s. It outlines key policies and acts that shaped ethnic minority education during this period. In the 1940s, the 1944 Education Act aimed to create structure in the post-war education system. In the 1950s, a model of assimilation developed where no more than 30% of students in a class could be from an ethnic minority. The 1960s saw a shift to a model of integration and tolerance, but stereotypes persisted. In the 1970s, the second generation emerged, creating problems. The 1980s brought the Swann Report advocating multicultural education for all. It found racism affected ethnic minority students' experiences. The 1988 Education Reform Act also
This paper analyzes John Dewey's early works and concepts of education in plural societies to show that many of the concepts that now form the basis of multicultural and intercultural education were already present in Dewey's thought. Specifically, Dewey advocated for pursuing equality, seeking social change, recognizing cultural diversity, and enhancing participation - principles that are embedded in modern theories of multicultural and intercultural education. The paper conducts a comparative study of Dewey's works from the late 1800s/early 1900s and prominent literature in multicultural and intercultural education to demonstrate the connections.

In the closing keynote to the Media Education Summit in Prague in 2014, Professor Hobbs shares insights gained from working with educators and researchers in Turkey, Russia, Brazil and Israel who are exploring media literacy pedagogy and practice at the elementary and secondary levels. She
describes and analyzes an example of a global media
literacy project that involved Turkish and American
middle-school students. Professor Hobbs considers
how teacher motivations regarding the use of digital
media interact with structural relationships between
government, school and higher education to produce
differential opportunities for innovation. She identifies the many flavors of digital literacy now circulating in contemporary culture and shows how collaborative global research in media literacy education can help researchers examine and question some fundamental assumptions and
expectations of the field.

Global competency is a dynamic process that involves universities becoming more extroverted in their knowledge, practices, and research methods. It has both an internal dimension focused on developing globally competent skills and knowledge among students, and an outward dimension involving the internationalization and multicultural application of those elements. Key aspects of developing global competency include extroversion in research, interaction between methods and ethos, willingness to adopt changes, communication at all levels, and initiatives to engage the academic community. Global competency and comprehensive internationalization are interconnected processes that are transforming universities into globally connected institutions over the next 500 years.

Definition of Social Studies, Percieved program needs and Diverse program app...GladysValencia13
Social studies encompasses multiple disciplines that are combined into lessons to provide students opportunities for greater inquiry about major world events and issues. Educators draw from subjects like history, geography, and economics. Geography lessons examine how physical features and natural resources influence civilizations. Economics lessons cover concepts like supply and demand. World history explores the rise and fall of classical empires and technological developments. Teachers use diverse approaches like learner-centered, where students discover solutions; society-centered, focusing on improving society; and knowledge-centered, ensuring access to powerful knowledge across disciplines. The primary goal is to help students make informed decisions as citizens.
