A soldier calls his parents from San Francisco to ask if he can bring a friend home who was injured in Vietnam. The parents are hesitant when they learn the friend has lost an arm and a leg. They feel he would be a burden. When the son insists, the parents refuse. The son then commits suicide. The parents later discover their son also only had one arm and one leg, showing their lack of unconditional love. The story promotes accepting people for who they are regardless of physical limitations.
