The window regulators of
your car are located inside the
doors. They consist of metal
rails, idler pulleys and a metal
seat which may contain an
electric engine. The entire part
is connected to the window
switch or winder with which
the window can be opened
or closed
WINDOW
REGULATOR
There are two types of window
regulators:
• regulators with comfort function:
opening or closing the window
can be done by pressing the
button just once. The engine
of this kind of regulator has
more than two (generally four)
connectors.
• regulators without comfort
function: to completely roll
down your window, you’ll need
to keep pressing the button.
These regulators have only two
connectors.
On the website of Mister-Auto
you’ll find the technical details
of each window regulator on the
product description.
HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT WINDOW
REGULATOR?
• If you press the button, the
window rolls down unusually
slowly and when rolling up, it
doesn’t close completely but
rolls back down instead.
• The window rolls up and down
normally but makes cracking
noises when moving.
• The window doesn’t roll down
but falls down.
WHEN IS IT
LIKELY I HAVE A
PROBLEM WITH MY
REGULATORS?
TIPS FROM
MISTER-AUTO
• It is essential to
thoroughly grease
your new window
regulator prior to its
installation. Ensure you
have greased the pulleys
and rails as well. This will pay
off in the longevity of your new
regulator.
• Please note : if your car has
window regulators with a comfort
function, they must be replaced
by those as well. By the same
token, if you don’t have regulators
with comfort function, you cannot
install those. Instead, you must
buy new window regulators
without a comfort function.
• At Mister-Auto, a new window
regulator will cost you about £120.
whereas you will easily pay twice
as much at your local dealer.
• Window regulators with a
comfort function often need to
be reinitialised. Closely follow the
instructions that come with your
new part to activate this function.

CHANGING YOUR WINDOW REGULATOR IN 13 EASY STEPS
Check whether your window switch still works properly. This
can easily be done by taking the switch out with a plain
slot screwdriver. Use a voltmeter to check if the electricity
flows through. If your voltmeter indicates a number close
to 0, the window switch is fine, if it shows a value much
higher than 0, it has broken down.

Take the window regulator out of the door via the largest
hole that you’ve got. You’ll probably have to push it right
in before you can free it and lift it out. Take good care to
look at the way in which it sat in the door so that you can
insert the new regulator in the same way.
Compare the two window regulators. If they don’t have
the same shape or colour, no need to panic, that’s fine.
However, you do need to make sure both regulators have
the same number of wire connectors and assembly holes.
Thoroughly grease the rails and pulleys of the new window regulator, even if it has
been greased already.
