thGAP - BAbyss in Moderno!! Transgenic Human Germline Alternatives ProjectMarc Dusseiller Dusjagr
thGAP - Transgenic Human Germline Alternatives Project, presents an evening of input lectures, discussions and a performative workshop on artistic interventions for future scenarios of human genetic and inheritable modifications.
To begin our lecturers, Marc Dusseiller aka "dusjagr" and Rodrigo Martin Iglesias, will give an overview of their transdisciplinary practices, including the history of hackteria, a global network for sharing knowledge to involve artists in hands-on and Do-It-With-Others (DIWO) working with the lifesciences, and reflections on future scenarios from the 8-bit computer games of the 80ies to current real-world endeavous of genetically modifiying the human species.
We will then follow up with discussions and hands-on experiments on working with embryos, ovums, gametes, genetic materials from code to slime, in a creative and playful workshop setup, where all paticipant can collaborate on artistic interventions into the germline of a post-human future.

4. A meaningful cover
Book Cover
The design meaning of this cover comes from my perception
and understanding of this book.
This cover contains a lot of detail! First of all, this one here we
can identify her as Talley.
Then we can see that Talley has a deep cut on her face. The
crack extends to her nose, but there is still a thorn in the
wound. It's like a scar on her heart when she, as uglies, knows
she isn't pretties physically. But Pretties would still laugh at
Talley, everywhere she looked, her eyes, her nose, her mouth.
Each of these sneers pricked Talley's heart like salt in the
wound.
And then there's the scalpel, which is very obvious, which
hides half of Talley's face, but re
fl
ects the other face. This is
Talley's face after surgery. It was obvious that Tally's eyes had
dimmed, his eyes were blank, and his skin had turned pale
and bloodless. Her skin was smooth and smooth, but it was no
longer her.

7. In the future, due to the scarcity of water resources,
water will become very precious. And water
resources are monopolized by the state oligopoly;
the oligarchs even created a new currency for this,
called water currency, the price of water currency is
even more valuable than a pound of gold. In order to
"bene
fi
t" people, the oligarchs give each household
a water coin every week, and one water coin can
only be exchanged for one liter of water. It even
instigated the country to introduce a law on the
execution of only two water coins for stealing. It
turns out that the rich people have not only become
the lackeys of the oligarchs through improper means,
but also gained the right to oppress the people. But
gradually, the people disagreed, and they began to
resist. Although they were suppressed again and
again by the government, they overthrew the
oligarchic rule with tenacious perseverance. The
rebellious people have elected four leaders to lead
them on the "Greater Path." The four leaders then
worked hard to make rules with people and worked
hard to bring happiness to everyone. But one day,
one of the leaders said, "Why can't we have a good
time when we work so hard?" The other leaders
agreed, so they quietly wrote on the last rule of the
rule "Leaders can, when they want, Enjoy it
properly." After they added this so-called rule,
everyone seemed to have no objection, because
those who objected were all expelled to the desert.

everyone seemed to have no objection, because

The four leaders found that no one said they
disagreed, so they added two more words "Leaders
can take charge of the water resources of the whole
country for fairness" and ""Leaders can make
appropriate adjustments to the economic system for
national security." "People still have no objection. It's
just that this day seems to be somewhat similar to
the past, and we still don't know how long this scene
can last. . .
9. Today is my 342nd day as a uglies at the
age of 15, another boring day, the idea that
being pretties is a good future is instilled in
school all day long. The only thing I look
forward to is the wonderful adventure of
sneaking into pretties city every night. But
today I ran into someone else when I went on
an adventure! It's another uglies, she says
her name is Talley, but I'd prefer to call her
"pig eyes". Unlike other uglies, she doesn't
blindly think that pretties are good people or
superiors. She also seems to be disgusted by
pretties who have empty heads and party
except when they eat and sleep. The two of
us are very happy to talk, and feel that we
have really met a confidant. We rode the
hoverborad all over the place together. She
Talley is awesome, sneaking into pretties
city alone and screwing up a party, and
jumping off the top of the building wearing
a bungee jacket. This is simply amazing! I
really want to explore with her every day!
10. This is my 8th day in smoke, I don't know
what Talley thinks, she's only late now, but
it's okay, at least she's here. Really miss her.
When I saw her coming today, I didn't
recognise her at first, but her dusty
appearance made people feel distressed. But
I seem to have forgotten to tell David that
tally is coming. But it doesn't matter. Our
croy saw so much food in Talley's bag and
wanted it. Talley obviously didn't know the
importance of dehydrated food in smoke, so
he still wanted to give him generously.
Luckily I stopped Talley in time, lol. I also
took Talley to various places in Smoke, I also
met the boss and David, and I took her to
buy a sweater and a sleeping bag at the
exchange centre. Talley was obviously
shocked by the technology of smoke, and I
was also very impressed. Glad, I've thought
about our wonderful life in smoke!
12. We learn that Tally lives in Uglyville,
and wants to become a Pretty.
We also learn her friend Peris is now
a Pretty, and she sneaks in to visit
him.
Tally meets Shay, who is also waiting
to turn Pretty, and they become best
friends.
Shay teaches Tally to hoverboard, Shay takes
Tally to the ruins, Shay tells Tally of the Smoke,
Shay runs away and invites Tally, Special
Circumstances tells Tally to find Shay, Tally sets
off for the Smoke, Tally meets David, David
takes Tally to his parents, his parents tell Tally
what being pretty does, Tally throws
her tracking device into the fire.
In the climax, Special Circumstances invades the
Smoke while Tally is asleep. Tally tries to run, but
the Specials still think she is on their side. She
runs from the Specials and hides out with David,
one of the few Smokies who escaped.
Tally and David go to find the other Smokies,
specifically Davids parents. They break into
Special Circumstances headquarters and find
that Shay has turned Pretty. They escape, and
Davids mom finds a cure for being Pretty, but has
no test subject as Shay refuses to take it.
Tally decides to give herself to Special
Circumstances. She believes that they will
turn her pretty so they can test the cure on
her. She writes herself a letter to make sure
she agrees to taking the cure even when
she is Pretty, and David promises to come
for her.

There is an old saying in China, "If you break out

try to change, allowing pretties to discriminate.
There are only a few uglies like Talley and Shay
who are brave enough to challenge inequality and

“Am I the only one that’s coming unglued?” “I’m by

In the utopian world of the future, the most authentic
appearance of human beings is called ugly, and after
transformation is called pretty, which is very sad. But
they don't feel like they've been taught from birth that
"you're beautiful when you've been transformed," and
uglies like Shay don't even realize it's trivial to want to
change.

Those who have tallied have done so much in their

who have done so little that, like the Old Chinese

Mount Tai or lighter than a feather, it is worth
celebrating because she has spoken out against

Shay and Talley have for David, it doesn't change the
fact that they call their new life at Smoke a farce. No

that they are about to be transformed.
