TYPES OF
ELECTRONIC
SIGNATURES
There are mainly three types
of electronic signatures.
Electronic
Signature
Simple Electronic
Signature (SES)
Advanced Electronic
Signature (AES)
Qualified Electronic
Signature (QES)
Simple Electronic
Signature (SES)
A SES is the most basic form of digital signature, where a
signature is created using an electronic means such as
typing in a name or clicking a button to indicate
acceptance of terms. SES does not use encryption or any
advanced security mechanisms to protect the authenticity
and integrity of the document.
Advanced Electronic
Signature (AES)
An AES is a digital signature that meets certain legal
requirements to be considered equivalent to a physical
signature. It is created using cryptographic techniques to
ensure the integrity and authenticity of the signed
document. AES also provides non-repudiation, meaning
the signer cannot deny having signed the document.
Qualified Electronic
Signature (QES)
A QES is the highest level of digital signature that meets
the strictest legal requirements for electronic signatures.
It is created using a secure signature creation device
(SSCD) that is certified by a trusted authority. QES
provides the highest level of security, integrity, and
authenticity, and is legally equivalent to a handwritten
signature.
