1. The Day before Renewal
A Special Holiday Greeting for our PEO Friends
(With apologies to The Night before Christmas)
'Twas the day before renewal, when all through the office
Not a creature was stirring, not even the bosses;
The submissions were sent to the agent with care,
In hopes that a carrier soon would reappear;
The CFO was nestled all snug in his chair,
While visions of dividends danced in head;
The claims manager in her sweater and I in my cap,
Had just settled down for a nice mocha frappe,
When in my e-mail box there arose such a clatter,
I lurched in my chair to see what was the matter.
Away to the inbox I moused in flash,
Clicked on the icons and opened my stash
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But an embedded video message of a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer,
With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;
"Now, SUNZ! now, AMTRUST! now, Castlepoint and Artex!
On, Zurich! on, Guarantee! on, Summit and Chartis!
To the top of the roof! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!"
So up to the roof-top the coursers they flew,
With the sleigh full of mod rates, and St. Nicholas too.
And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
the prancing and pawing of each little hoof.

2. As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
In through our front door St. Nicholas came with a bound.
He was dressed all in pinstripes, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tailored--with wingtips to boot;
A bundle of policies he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.
His eyes -- how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the crown of his hair was as white as the snow;
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread;
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
Delivered our renewals; then turned with a jerk,
And giving a nod, out the front door he went;
He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,
"Happy Renewal to all, and to all a good-night."
If only it were so simple. As we all know, there are some things even Santa Claus can’t deliver.
