This document discusses the importance of diversity and cultural awareness in the global workforce. It notes that the US population is becoming increasingly diverse and less like a melting pot. Understanding cultural differences can help effectively serve clients by conveying information, developing skills, and overcoming barriers. Key traits that can hinder cross-cultural interactions include low tolerance for ambiguity and being overly task-oriented. Culture refers to the way of life passed down through generations, and generalizations can help understand it while avoiding stereotypes. Nonverbal communication and conflict resolution also vary across cultures.
The document outlines plans for an IFMA Presidents Conference, including objectives, positioning, goals, strategies, and an extensive action plan. The conference aims to provide senior foodservice industry leaders with relevant strategies and opportunities to connect with channel partners. An invitation-only event, it seeks to attract presidents and senior executives through unique insights, best practices, and an intimate collaborative environment. An established committee will oversee development and implementation of the conference according to the detailed timeline and tasks.
The newsletter summarizes upcoming events for alumnae of the Epsilon Lambda chapter of Sigma Kappa sorority including a retreat in Golden Gate Park on May 8th, a senior day event on May 16th, and a career mixer on May 7th. Tuxton China Launches New Upscale Line: AlumaTux
May 2009 (City of Industry, CA) – Tuxton China has launched its new high end line,
AlumaTux, geared towards the upscale restaurant dining scene. AlumaTux features an
elegant and refined look perfect for hotels and country clubs, yet is durable and
competitively priced to its European‐made counterparts.
AlumaTux gets its name from the aluminum oxide component within the clay formula
developed exclusively for the line. The aluminum oxide is the main source of the
dinnerware’s strength and durability in spite of its seemingly delicate and lightweight
body. AlumaTux will be available in two attractive patterns in Tuxton’s pearl white color:
Milano ‐ featuring a simple wide rim design; and San Marino ‐ a wide rim and stylish
embossed lines in a wide variety of shapes and sizes.
The AlumaTux line has been well received, and has garnered much excitement from the
industry during its debut at trade shows in the beginning of this year. It is scheduled to be
in stock at Tuxton’s main warehouse in Southern California starting mid‐2009.

Tuxton China Visits its Manufacturing Facility in China to
Ensure Quality and Safety Standards
March 2009 (City of Industry, CA) – It is essential to have high quality in all aspects of the
production line, from the clay and glaze formulas to the drying process. This month, Tuxton
China’s president, Bill Burden, and product engineer, Leo Suzuki took a trip to Southern
China to inspect the new lead and cadmium testing equipment at our factory.
The new testing equipment features a long blue flame that changes colors as it reacts to
different chemicals in the various tested solutions so lab technicians can determine the
existence of certain trace elements that may be found in the ceramic clay. Bill and Leo also
inspected the factory’s machinery within the lab, including the impact and chip testing
capabilities.
Tuxton China always keeps the health and safety of its customers in mind. The high
standards set by the foodservice industry, prompts our factory to maintain the latest in
state‐of‐the‐art testing equipments in order to achieve consistency and reliability of
product safety in all Tuxton’s offerings. Bill and Leo also took a tour of the entire facility, as
well as inspecting the wares that are currently being manufactured in the factory, to ensure
quality standards of our products and work life quality of the employees are in compliance
with our corporate directives.

Tuxton China Commends its Family of Representatives at its
Biennial NAFEM Awards Dinner
February 2009 (Orlando, FL) – A small perk of being a part of the Tuxton family is the
Awards and Appreciation Dinner held prior to every NAFEM Show. This biennial event,
first established in 2003, was a way to commend the fantastic efforts of the Tuxton team to

allows everyone to meet with each other once every two years and associate names with
faces, meet new people, and see old friends. The atmosphere is truly one of a family
reunion – pictures are taken, stories exchanged, laughter and smiles abound. As with any
large family event, of course there will be competition and awards…
