Land Acknowledgement
Simcoe County District School Board acknowledges that we
are situated on the traditional land of the Anishinaabeg
people. We acknowledge the enduring presence of First
Nation, Metis and Inuit people on this land and are committed
to moving forward in the spirit of reconciliation and respect."

At Pine River we are promote the use of reusable water
bottles.
● In 2013, Canadians purchased 2.4 billion litres of bottled water which
equals about 68 litres per person.
● The bottled water industry is worth more than $170 billion worldwide.
● According to Statistics Canada, 3 out of 10 Canadian households drink
bottled water.

● The cost of bottled water ranges anywhere from approximately 8
cents/500ml (bought in bulk from a large chain) to $2.50/500ml (high-end
brand bought from a vending machine).
● The cost of tap water for Canadians is approximately tenths of a cent per
litre.
● The Pacific Institute found that in 2006, bottled water production required
the energy equivalent of 17 million barrels of oil and emitted 2.5 million
tons of carbon dioxide.

PRES Challenge to celebrate Earth Week this week...
● Try to increase how you use reusable containers.
● Reusable water bottles and coffee cups.
● Reduce “garbage” in lunches
Let’s try to reduce that amount of garbage in our trash cans until the end of
the year.

the front foyer.

Eco Team Members will be visiting classes today after
second recess. They will keep us up to date with how we are
doing with our Reduce challenge!
A reminder of the Rugby team practice here, today after
school. Meet in the field at 3:20 ready to play.

ECO Team Tip The Reduce Challenge is on at Pine River.
Go to earthday.org and find out how you can reduce your
plastic consumption! If you are planning to do a yard/fence
clean up with your class, or wish to clean up at recess,
please see Mrs. Tripp. She will give you a biodegradable bag
and a glove and you can pick up any litter that you find on the
yard.
