Tuckman's model of team formation proposes that teams go through 5 stages as they work together: forming, storming, norming, performing, and adjourning. In the forming stage, team members get to know each other and establish roles. Storming involves conflicts as team dynamics are tested. During norming, team behaviors and expectations are established. In performing, the team works synergistically towards goals. Finally, adjourning occurs when a project ends and the team disbands or a member leaves. The model provides insight into how teams develop over time through these stages of interpersonal challenges and role development.
