11. Owl Report
The Northern Saw-whet Owl is a very interesting owl. Their color is
brown, white, and dark colors. The forehead is white. The body is about
17 to 21.9 centimeters long. The wing span is about 45.9 to 56.3
centimeters long. It lives in the north in old woodpecker cavities. It eats
rodents like mice, rats, squirrels and other rodents. Bigger owls like the
Boreal Owl eat the Northern Saw-whet Owl. The female is slightly larger
then the male. They weigh about 75 to 110 grams heavy.
The Northern Saw-whet Owl has a short life cycle. The first stage is the
adult. The next stage is the egg. The egg size is about 30x25 mm big.
The incubation is all done by females. In about 21 to 28 days, the
incubation is done. They learn how to fly when they are 4 to 5 weeks
