FREIGHT TRAIN DERAILMENT FORCES RAIL AND ROAD CLOSURES
ELMHURST, Ill., June 30, 2015 – At 6:30 this morning, along York Road at Palmer Drive, a general alarm for a
railroad train derailment was called. One locomotive derailed over the Palmer Drive overpass along with multiple rail
cars near Myrtle Avenue. Inspections have found fuel leaking out on to First Street and running down into the Palmer
Drive underpass.
The Emergency Operating Center (EOC) has been activated and a crisis management team has arrived on site.
York Road is being detoured both north and south of the Palmer Drive underpass and the following crossings are
blocked to traffic: Myrtle, Addison, York, Palmer Drive Underpass, Haven and West Avenue. Current reports are that
the railway will remain closed for two or three days.
The City of Elmhurst and the Crisis Management Team will hold a joint media briefing this morning at 8:00 am. More
updates will follow as needed.
