Chhau Dance is a traditional dance from eastern India that dramatizes stories from Hindu epics like the Mahabharata and Ramayana as well as local folklore through three distinct regional styles from Seraikella, Purulia, and Mayurbhanj. Its movements are based on martial arts, animal behaviors, and daily tasks, and it is performed exclusively by male dancers, especially during the spring festival of Chaitra Parva, to the sounds of reed pipes in nighttime outdoor spaces.
